Oh good…
It’s nice to know that we are being so well looked after by the police.
I often wonder if we get noticed at all, and now I know.
To soon be able to bask in the never ending embrace of love and concern that the police will be showing us.
That they still care for us after the sometimes unfavourable things that have been said in these forums by those who may have reacted a little rash over a slight miscommunication with our protectors, shows how forgiving that they can be.
To extend the hand of friendship, and support in these turbulent times will bring us all together, and may bring peace and understanding between us.

Hear hear , overly officious pursuit of motorists at the expense of public safety should automatically be a criminal offence in my opinion.
I'm also wondering when the lack of a motorcycle rego/WOF was last responsible for an accident or road death...however, general motorist education and road safety messages about motorcycling to ALL motorists by the authorities should be encouraged.

If they rae doing "thorough checks" (which might mean warrant standard checks) then probably only about five or six - 10 minutes on each bike .. one hour to clear six bikes .. and more pile up behind ... the road is blocked ...

If a vehicle has a warrant and rego it is safe to be driven or ridden, and it it's operator has a license they're competent to use it in any and all driving/riding conditions.
And if they're doing under 110 kmh (104 kmh on public holidays) and not drunk they are driving safely.

Great to see a judge throw 40 speeding tickets out of his court because he sees them as a waste of policing powers.
One day this country will get educated men/women into the right channels to deal with several issues in our community.
ie Alcohol education, and driver education.
Sadly, if they leave it up to polly's and rozza's, the deaths will rise, and so shall the taxes.

Now as I have an A.V.I. cert (authorised vehicle inspector) I may be able to help here.
The manual is vague, not a little vague, very fucking vague…
There is a paragraph at the front that states that if I think your car, bike, light truck is unsafe for a reason that is not covered in the usual inspection, I can still fail it.
Cool eh?
But I have to prove it.
The other side of the coin is that a huge amount in there is “up to the discretion of the inspector”
So your rotor float may pass my test, yet fail another one later that day by someone ether less, or more experienced than I am.
If you die because of something I thought was Okay, I’m in deep shit.
Oddly enough, if I fail your vehicle, and you still die, and it was something that I may have missed, even though you didn’t have a warrant, I’m still in the shit.
Bike too loud?
I doubt I would think so unless it made my ears bleed, and I’m not spending the money on the gear, or riding out to a deserted airfield, on a windless day, with no cloud cover to test the thing is under the 95Db.
So then I’ll pass it.
If the ex mechanic/panel beating/auto sparky/ car valeting cops keep their cert’s up to date, then they are more committed than I am.
At the end of the day, if your bike has a little sticker on it, chances are they will wave you through and move on to the next in line.
But, if they do test your bike they are limited to tyres, are they down to the wear indicators? The lights, horn, high beam warning light, all working?
Nothing hanging off it?
Not actually much on a bike, and not much you can do on the side of the road in the small amount of time they legally have, unless they want to arrest or fine you.
Anyone who fought them in court shouldn’t have to do much to win.
And no, I no longer do, or want to do any warrant inspections.
Its not worth the drama.
I have a nice new job, my hands are clean, my tools are at home and life is good.

How easy would it be to fuck up Auckland?
Northern motorway + southern motorway + north-western motorway around 7am, city bound lanes. Block that shit up and there will be tailbacks for god knows how many kms. We would have people several hours late for work. There are plenty of bikes in Auckland and if some bikers from Hamilton and everywhere else around wanted to join in then we could have a LOT of bikes on the road.
Auckland is NZs biggest city, how would the politicians feel is we fucked it up for several hours on a week day and threatened to do it again? A couple of years ago the Rego was $270, what will it be next year? The Canadians are pissed off because their rego doubled in 3 years, we must be looking at close to the same thing.

I'm not too sure what you mean. As I said in my post it was ~$270 a couple of years back, so where will it be next year? It is almost twice what it was, if they decide to throw in another increase next year then like Canada it could easily be over twice what it was within 3 years.

On a monday morning it wouldn't even have to be that, the traffic moves that slowly in a Auckland "rush" hour.. One bike per, lets say, truck space (it's good to keep your distance ;) ) per lane, each one moving very very slowly in the already slow traffic.

Whichever day, whenever it gets organised for I'm willing to be there holding up traffic.
I paid my Rego in September of 2008 - it was $279ish I think. Then last year I paid $330ish and this year it was $405. I don't trust them not to put it up again next year - especially if we bend over and take what they have for us so far. For you guys with over 600cc it is even worse at $528, what if they whack on another $50 or more next year? What about the following year? They already let us know what they wanted to put it up to, why would we think that they wont take it there over a few years?
Maybe we should be more like the Canadians and do some more serious protesting, eh?

I was in MAG UK for many years, every time there was a rally, poker run; charity event etc, there would be a protest for biker’s rights, constantly keeping up the pressure. Riding bikes is what its about and we all want to be able to continue doing it. How about trying convince individual event organisers to incorporate an ACC protest, every time a large group of riders gets together.

I find I prefer the more conventional comedies, levity tends to pale a tad in the face of extreme penury.
Yes, we are certainly heading that way. Pity, I kind of hoped that our beloved leaders might have a few ideas that may have resulted in positive change, but it seems beyond a charming PM with a lovely smile they have few tools in the toolbox.

Are the police qualified to do thorough mechanical checks? I think not. They will only be doing thorough tax checks.Generally they take a VTNZ guy with them.

Dude, they just have to get out of the fucking way and let those who CAN make a difference get the job done. As it stands the lolly scramble we buy into every three years means policies where every time any one of us does something positive for the economy we get penalised for it.
If I wasn't systematically and arbitrarily screwed with respect to any activities that demonstrate I might have a few bucks to spare, (like owning a >600cc motorcycle) I’d be absolutely ecstatic to pay what otherwise amounts to a very reasonable ACC levy. As it is? Avoidance are us, they can go get fucked.
‘Scuse, off to turn another black sheckel…

Actually no.In Welly bikes are not allowed to park in car spaces but have to stick to the bike specific ones.Sucks eh.What's the ticket worth? And how many do you think they'll be issue whilst twenty bikes are hurling abuse/rotten fruit, accidentally walking into and elbowing them etc etc. If I was a lone council parking warden, and I was getting the stiff shoulder and jostled by guys wearing leather and armour, I'd be moving along myself... Honestly, if they could move you on from a park in less than 30 minutes, you're not trying hard enough.

True true... and then they'll have to spend another 5 minutes explaining why the bike isn't allowed to park there to the new rider... You guys only have to mess them up for an hour or two, that's all it would take.

I've never been screwed either systematically or arbitrarily.
I'd like an environment that was a little more oriented towards smaller businesses (such as myself and my clients), it would also be nice to have a government that wasn't stuck with what failed in the past and could actually look into the future and plan around what is likely to happen. And wasn't obsessed with trying to catch up to Australia - be like me trying to get the Thunderbird to catch up with a Gixxer 1000. Impossible and pointless even trying.
But neither the current lot nor the last lot show any sign of delivering on those criteria, but at least Michael Cullen had a sense of humour, whereas English is the epitomy of dull and grey.

Ya what? That prat had about the same sense of humour as a cow pat. An old one, that didn't fall on anyone and is just sitting there, quietly drying out...

Bollocks - have you ever listened to any debates with him in them? The guy was very, very clever and had a very acerbic sense of humour he used on the opposition every chance he got.
The current crop (all parties) are as dull as dust and National are the party of choice for Accountants and bankers, so expecting a Nat to have a sense of humour is like expecting a Harley to be light and nimble. Or a Honda owner to be heterosexual.
The Greens are altogether too earnest and busy trying not to offend, Act are just morons and too busy trying to get back in power, Peter Dunne is a god botherer, Jim Anderton is worn out, Maori are worthy and earnest (with the exception of Hone Harawira, who I think is mostly funny by accident) and Labour are too busy wondering what the hell to do next.
We live in dire times when there are no clever and amusing people in parliament, Australia is looking good.

If a vehicle has a warrant and rego it is safe to be driven or ridden, and it it's operator has a license they're competent to use it in any and all driving/riding conditions.
And if they're doing under 110 kmh (104 kmh on public holidays) and not drunk they are driving safely.
A rego dont make a bike safe, I dont have one never will

MAD FOOL! Next thing you'll be telling me you have ridden at speeds exceeding 104 kmh! Not having registration is crazy, and wild young men like you are a blight on society.

Pfft! Debates. The dick lives not far from me. He is the only one who thinks what he says is funny (you excluded?).
The last genuine funny polly was arguably David Lange...mass debates about uranium breath. Or something...

I like Winston - when he's in full flight he can be very good and Muldoon may have been mad but could be funny in a cruel way.

It's even easier than that. Choose a day and take the car.
Encourage all motorcyclists to take their cars to work that day, call it "get up against the wall" day, and make it once a month. Get there early, score all the best parks, especially the ones likely to be otherwise inhabited by people we don't like.
Get a big black crayon and make a sign: YOU COULD HAVE THIS PARK IF I HAD A PLACE TO PARK MY MOTORCYCLE.
Not quite accurate, they're in discussions with the forces of evel in the form of various parking companies to provide "special" ("revenue generating) parks for motorcycles, in parking buildings.
TFOE are, I believe the same lot that "manage" the council's parking infringement requirements.
Right, think that's enough Nasturtiums cast for the meantime, get into 'em.

Not entirely. I'm actually heading over to Oz for a couple of weeks next year to have a bit of a look around and I'm chatting to a couple of companies that are keen to have me on board. I can earn substantially more over there and the more I see of John Key and his crew the less impressed I am with them. I didn't particularly like Clark or how she governed, and I was pretty enthusiastic about Key when he started but I think he's just a bit dumb. Nice smile though, and that stands for a lot in NZ.

if I was on the dole I really would be getting screwed - I think its about $150 a week and with unemployment high that would be more getting buggered than screwed. Fortunately there are enough people who are dumb enough to pay me to do shit for them because I'm smarter than them, but I'd hate to be in the situation where I didn't have a job or couldn't find one easily.
That's why I'm thinking of moving to Aussie - heaps of people who know less than me over there; like they say, in the land of the blind the one eyed man is king.
