Tether switch

i have fitted a tether switch to my cbr400. its wired into the kill switch but keeps blowing fuses. is it meant to be on the ignition switch?
any help would be greatly appreciated.

...you have a short by the sounds of it..change the wire polarity where you have joined at switch and see if that helps...

There are two types of tether switch.
One breaks continuity - this is what you should have.
One makes contact to earth - this is for self generating ignitions which when earthed don't spark.

From the sound of it you have the wrong type.

how can i tell the difference? the one i have is called and atv deadman switch

Got a multimeter ? or even a torch battery and bulb ?

For your bike when the switch is "on" you should have continuity - current should flow.
"off" - no current.

If it's the opposite you've got the wrong type.

Some types have a diode which can be reversed. Ask an auto sparky to look at your switch if it's the wrong type to se if this is possible.

More detail would help - but what you SHOULD have is a switch that opens when the tether is pulled out, and it should be wired inline with the kill switch wire.

That way you have 2 switches in series and they must both be closed for current to flow.
