Diving into the world of cruisers

Hey everyone, been riding sports bikes for years and moved to Motards for the last 3 years as I preferred the upright position as I commute to work most days and was generally over sportsbikes and sore wrists etc. Then I got pissed off with all the little bits and bobs that are characteristic of riding Motards regularly. I started looking at hornets / bandits and what have you looking for more upright seating but with some good power to boot. I ended up swapping my motard with a nice guy on here for his 04 blue kwaka zx10r, it was simply stunning and I couldn't turn away the offer to swap. I've had it for 6 months and its simply a fantastic bike with mind blowing power BUT I should've followed my own path of heading towards a more upright comfy bike because as I get older my riding needs have changed.

Now I want to go on longer rides on the weekends and be comfortable and commute to work in style but with the same comfort.

My mate who owned a yoshimura special gsxr1000 just traded it in on a Suzuki M109r and told me to head in for a test ride, I took one home from colemans for the night and was blown away, very refreshing to be riding a bike in complete comfort, obviously doesn't handle like a sports bike but do bloody well considering their girth and torque is fantastic. I rode it home in peak traffic and back the next morning and did some night riding to further test it. Needless to say now that my best mate has one and I really enjoyed it I'm on the market for a M109r. Taking my time to look properly and find myself the best deal if I can.

Sorry for the long story but wanted to share, I'm sure a lot of you on here are saying "what took you so long to realise ;) "

Anyone looking to buy a mint 04 zx10r in blue with pipe let me know.

Don't feel rushed. Just cruizin along, smell the silage, stop when you want. I love it.

I loved the 109! I'd have one in a heartbeat! I wouldn't replace the C50T though as it's a true cruiser and conducive to relaxed riding anywhere, anytime, yet capable of picking up its skirts and having a bit of fun on as well.

The 109, I found I had to ride more agressively, ie: more like a sports bike before I "got it" and understood what it was about. Fantastic power and brakes with good enough handling and I like the looks as well.

The C50T is like riding a couch and the best all-rounder I could want since I can only have one bike.

I like the boulevard range, when moving up from my first cruiser style (750 Shadow which I did my restricted on) one of the things that came home to me was a need to be able to carry stuff, so I went looking for a bigger bike to fit my size 6ft, 96kg, did a lot of reading of forums and finally settled on three bikes all with carrying capacity. Finally headed to a Kawasaki 1600 Nomad has it was top of my list and also had hard panniers, its heavy but I'll get used to that but I actually feel in a lot of respects its also easier to ride than the low powered shadow. I'd have to say if it gets any better than this steed I would be surprised. Big twin, great sound, no vibration, & feels like an arm chair. I rode the shadow from north of Whangarei to Auckland, bloody near couldn't walk when I got to the dealer, jumped on the Nomad said to the dealer that if I'm not back in an hour to go ahead and sell my trade, other than stopping for fuel and a quick drink rode home actually at times laughing inside my helmet it was so good and comfortable.

The Nomad was my preference at the time, but couldn't justify the extra dollars. I do like them and they've got a deserved rep. For the price, the C50T is very hard to beat.

I have no experience with cruisers myself, just a VL250 as a loaner for a day, but I can't help but notice you said "Diving into the world of cruisers"

Seems to be a lot of thought that goes into buying a cruiser, as opposed to "Which superbike is the fastest"

Just an observation... carry on!

I guess the lot of thought comes in because it's such a different type of riding and you don't really shop for them on speed and handling it's more about comfort and look. It helps (for me anyway) that the boulevarde just happens to be grunty as sin for a cruiser and looks awesome in my opinion.

Im bulldogs buddy who bought the M109R. Its a nice change of pace from the gixxer thats for sure. I wouldnt even try to compare the two.

I really love the M109's comfort and looks. Gotta love all that torque going through the cool looking 240 rear.
It gets a fair lick on when pushed too. Was a huge change after 20 years of sports bikes but Im loving every minute of it.

No pressure riding is where its at!
