Well at the time it was big. But time heals all wounds. Just had my 990 serviced in cromwell by keith(going well Keith). Rode home to queenstown, no drama. Until i get off the bike.Where the hell is my top box? F$#K its gone. And I am so anal when I lock it into place too! Ride back to Cromwell scanning for it in the road side, make a few calls, back to Queenstown. To the Police station to fill out a form.
What a shitter! Not covered by contents insurance($200 excess) as it was on bike at the time. My Bike insurance will cover it but its a $600 excess.
Are there any KTM 990 owners that want to sell a factory plastic 42L top box to me.Its a bloody handy piece of kit!:shit:

Depending on how it attaches, the KTM boxes are Givi OEM. If you provide a shot of the top plate, I can show you what Givi boxes would mate to the plate.

Damn! Doncha hate that?
THREE TIMES, I have failed to secure the tail bag onto my bike. Three times it has fallen off. And, through some miracle, three times I have found it again...

I'm after just a plate for an older BMW topbox, which are Givi also.
So if you end up with a complete new setup and the plate fits my older box I may take it off your hands, provided you're not asking a mint for it of course.

Depending on the box, you're probably after the E250 universal fitment plate
http://www.givi.it/Fitment-kits/ look under plates. Unless its something slightly different.
There are essentially two types of fitment for topboxes in the Givi range. Either the box has hooks or the plate does. Generally boxes that have hooks are for scooters (and smaller bikes), while the boxes with cut outs for hooks are for bigger bikes and the boxes are bigger (E460, E52, E55 etc)
uh... yeah, I have a bit of Givi luggage. Between my boss and I, we have 3x E21 panniers, 2x E460 cases, 3x E52 Maxias and 1x E55 Maxia.

I want to replace it with the factory plastic top box if I can. Alot of people call them Gobi boxes. They are made by Hepco and becker but branded as KTM.

Go back to your Insurance company. Its called luggage and is covered by house and contents. They no doubt will argue (its what Insurance companies do) but if you tip the bike over and try to claim the topbox as part of the claim then!!! they will tell "you its luggage mate"

Yeah, I had a big chat with them. Don't you worry. They openly say if it was for example sitting in the garage and stolen they would cover it under contents insurance. BUT because it was attached to the bike and used how it was designed to be used ... no cover. I asked why they replaced a watch( thru my contents insurance) I lost a few years ago when I was wearing it at the time. They of course said thats different.
They then pulled out a big folder with all the rules. A hell of alot bigger than the brochure they ran me thru when starting the policy that says no motor vehicle accessories can be claimed. I will be taking this up with them.

Sometimes you have too jump pretty high to get them to do the right thing  Got shown the big book once, pointed to the policy that I had in my hand and said "if it ain't in this contract that your company signed with me, then it don't exist". The one thing you have in your favour is you are the customer and ultimately they want your business
Just so we can slag em off better, who is your insurance company?
Hang on, lets have a competition, :woohoo: person who guesses who your insured through gets ............... buggered if I know  a leave pass from the wife perhaps?
My guess is State
Next please :woohoo:

Don't bother - they are perfectly correct.
The box is a motorcycle accessory and your watch is personal effects. Their statement about paying for it if stolen from the garage is very generous.
The "rules" they were talking about is the policy.
The policy is your contract with them, so next time you might want to read it prior to needing it.

Ive won some Ive lost some. What I do know is that sometimes you have to push to get what you want.
Its called the squeaky wheel syndrome, it attracts the oil. The wheels that do everything quietly get no attention
I also know from experience that not all Insurance loss adjusters are working in "My" best interest :innocent:
So whats your Guess for his Insurance Company? We would all have a horror story about at least one I would wager

The squeaky wheel sydrome only works when you are right.
Otherwise it makes you look like a goit.
This item is specifically designed for a motorcycle and was lost off a motorcycle.
If you actually read the policy (any contents policy, from any company), you will see that this is the subject of a specific exclusion.
{Exclusions} motor vehicles (other than an electric wheelchair or mobility scooter, and
garden appliances), motorcycles, motor scooters, caravans, trailers, and their
spare parts and accessories
I'm all for keeping insurers honest (and I used to make a living out of doing just that, amongst other things), but this sort of internet puffery is a waste of everyones time.

Puffery  In the immortal words of Monty Python, "thats a good woody word"
Ok so lets pretend that when I claimed for my panniers on my RS (through State by the way) that they said, roger mate  No worries they are motorcycle accessories, no need to claim them under another Insurance Policy that you have with us, as opposed too, sorry but they are luggage and you will need to make a separate claim for them and pay an excess for that as well as the bike policy :innocent: And that when my bike fell over and landed on another uninsured bike (for which God was blamed by the way) that by "puffery" I managed to get things sorted as they should have been without the "Puffery" :woohoo: (Although it certainly is a good woody word)
Now shall we focus on the word Goit :innocent: If a goit is a person who rolls over and plays dead every time something goes wrong, then lies there until the troubles are vaporised by the magic fairy wand of life then I guess I am not a Goit
Could you forward me a Goit application form please

Was the claim paid under the bike insurance or your contents insurance?

Perhaps I should get my lawyer to look at the "contract" before I sign anything. I think when you say they are generous is so over the top my friend.

It's not a "contract", it's a contract.
Your copy is called the policy, and yes, you should read it - it will outline what is covered and what isn't. In fact if you tell me which insurer, I'll get you a copy.
So why is what I'm saying over the top?
Most, if not all home contents insurance policies exclude (amongst other things) motorcycle accessories. So if you can make a case for your Givi Top Box not being a motorcycle accessory, go for your life.
If you can't make that case, then anything that the insurer pays you is a bonus.

Oscar, don't have a go at me mate. I was just sharing my story. If the world we live in needs us to spent hours reading thru the fineprint before we do anything, Then this world sucks brother. Ami Knew all about me having a bike etc etc. I just was not going to pay a huge premium to insure my bike with them. Perhaps they could have mentioned all this then.
And the insurance company is AMI. I have talked to Classic cover who I have my bike policy with and even thou all this hu ha leaves me out of pocket at least Classic cover where bloody good about it all. And also Oscar, its not a givi top box. Please do not insult me.It was a far better and more expensive piece of kit. Perhaps you should practice what you preach and also read the fineprint. Oscar i am sick of talking to you now. I think I will go ride my bike!
Cheers!

Who's having a go?
You said I was over the top when I said the insurer was generous.
I'm simply saying that if you buy a service like insurance you should perhaps read the policy before you make a claim. And for your information, industry regulation requires that domestic insurance be written in plain English, so there is no fine print.
If you would like a copy of the AMI policy, pm me your e-mail address.

Was the claim paid under the bike insurance or your contents insurance?
Claim for repairs to the bike were all under the bike policy, State were the ones who wouldn't (until after some puffery) include the Panniers in the claim as they asserted they were luggage and I would need to claim against my home and contents policy :shit:
Ok policies may have changed, also Digitdion is insured through AMI (am I writing this slow enough for you to understand? hows that for an insult? :innocent: I too can drag this down to a personal level but cant see a future in it :woohoo:)
You seem to putting forward a belief that the Insurance Company is good and wholesome yet you also state you used to make a living out of keeping Insurers honest We could extrapolate the latter out to read "they are a bunch of crooks who only smile when you pay your premiums"
I don't pretend to have all the knowledge or answers, chances are that what the Insurance Company has told Digitdion is correct, a number of times what they have told me has been correct. I also know that sometimes by being a pain in their arses I have achieved small wins (God didn't fix my bike after he kicked it over State did, and they fixed the bike it landed on  )

I may read slow, but I understand good.
You told him to claim on his house and contents, and if I understand your drivel correctly yours was paid under your bike policy (where it is covered).
Notwithstanding that, he is insured with AMI and they do not cover MC accessories (I sourced a copy of the policy on line if you'd like to see it) and you telling him to be the squeaky wheel will not change that.
I never said anything about good and wholesome and I have spent long hours trying to get the bastards to pay claims that they should, but equally I can accept when something isn't covered.
