Does anyone know what's the cheapest place to buy air filters from? I just checked supercheap autos but they only seemed to have car sizes.

it's for a GS500, and I'm in Wellington

I wash mine petty good because GS500 air filter are made in fiber not paper!!!

If you insist buy original filter " 13780-01D00 " no restriction, no tunnel inside the filter, full power.

Blast it with compressed air. From the outside of the filter not the inside.

I have it on very good authority that cleaning those type of filters with compressed air is a surefire way to fuck 'em.

Can you give some more details? Maybe I've been doing it wrong.

I just go by the service manual (attached). It does say though as mentioned before that you should spray them from the outside not the inside, otherwise it clogs them up. I've got a GSF250 but it's a similar filter to a GS500, I've read somewhere that they're even interchangable (but it was on the net so might be bollocks).

It tears the fillament if you hit it with a really close jet of compressed air. You may not be able to see the damage, but it's doing it. Apparently But then, you're reading this on the net too so it's possibly completely incorrect. Just what I was told by someone in the know. Personally, I'd just spend the 100 bucks on a washable (K&N) filter.

It does make sense, those fibres are pretty fine and an air gun puts out a fair bit of pressure. I always make sure the nozzle is a fair way off the element but yeah a K&N would prob be the way to go if you've got the cash.

I owned a GS500. If I used the air gun, it was at low pressure and held well back from the filter. If you start looking at getting an original filter, I would be suprised if Suzuki still stock it. With my 2008 Honda, Blue wing had no parts at all in NZ. I bought parts thru a Sidney based dealer at half the price quoted by the NZ dealer to get bits in from Japan. .

If the local dealer quotes an arm and a leg for a new original part, that may be worth looking at.

I just priced up a genuine airfilter for my 83 GSX550, $89.00 ex Japan, ten days thankyou very much. K&N make one that'll fit it, not sure what they're worth though, I'll have to llok into it.

Last genuine Suzuki air filter I bought was $75, about two weeks delivery.

Yeah K&N are all very well, but they can make your bike run too lean by flowing less restrictively. So you will likely loss power unless you jet up the correct amount. Conversely this may increase power. On an old nail would you bother?

2. Vacuum Cleaner " Much better then use compress air "

Basic on way in way out

use vacuum cleaner " tube " put it inside the filter

of course use the tape stick the tube outside seal the air leak

2a. You also can warp a paper outside for the filter remains some place, clean it inch by inch by
vacuum air.

Depending on the type of filter if you're a bit of scroog and there's a Para Rubbber store available it may have air filtration foam (normal foam is unsuitable) which comes in a couple grades. Get one that matches your current foam filter(it may be tad thicker)-smaller holes better filtration, cut it to shape (hot glue or silicon in place if need be) and oil it. I've converted a few bike paper elements using the stuff.

Same reason you'd persevere for years building a 500cc Gammaha Albeit to a slightly lesser extent :D

Hey I like old bikes, but how much dicking around do you want to put into tuning them non std.

PS you can buy unifilter foam filter sheet in like an A4 size. Bike shop should be able to get it in. Can glue with superglue if need a wrap shape.

I took MyOEM GSXR panel filter to an outfit in ChCh that specialises in washing truck filters. Came back looking like new@ $15. Dont know if there was any impact on filtration efficiency, but it looked perfect!
