Bored and just realised the Honda RC148 of '65 was making 272hp per liter, air cooled with an 8 speed gearbox. :gob: :shit:

Porsche created a 1,500kgs 2 seater convertible car with two electric + a petrol engine. A hybrid car. This was before Hawaii annexed to the U.S.

Yes, I've been reading about the new 918 Spyder.

Just after in fact. Around 1900.
July 7, 1898, U.S. President McKinley signed a bill which resulted in the United States Annexing Hawaii.

Anorak moment...

And in 1948 a Vincent Black Shadow had a top speed of 150mph ... that's about 242 klicks ...

Even airbag systems aren't new...
Indian had an 8v ohc water cooled twin in 1908...
Hemisperical combustion chambers and gear driven ohc in 1903 by a french bunch..
Hydrualic lifters as standard on straight 8 buicks from the late 40's.

Not fair, I want new cool stuff.
Alfa's "multi-air" system seems to be the only "new" thing.

Airbags arn't new but wasn't very popular till late 90's.

Here's some questions. Wanna guess how many airbags the latest (in 1995) BMW 750iL had? That's the top of the line $269,500 flagship model back in the days.

How about how many in a Ferrari 512 Testarossa ($545,000)?

How many in Mercedes Benz S 500 Coupe ($325,100)?

Both top of the line BMW and Benz had two. Both cars costing more than a house had one for the driver and the passenger each.

The half million dollar Ferrari had 0.

Heck, Porsche 911 (993) had 1.
No airbags in any Toyota production models except for Celica (1), MR2 (1) and Supra (2).
No airbags in any Nissan production models except for the 200SX(1).

a philosopher once said "nothing has or will be thought, that hasn't been thought of before". He was pointing to the fact that in the great old civilisations (Greece Rome, Egypt, Incas etc) they had no mod cons, so had lots of time to sit around thinking of the grand design, (universe, higher being(s) etc).

The car is a buggy without a horse, a bike is a horse.

Speaking of old age vs modern, the USS Consititution (Named by G Washington himself) cost approx $302,000 to build... Well ofcourse, in 1794 money..... But still sounds like a bargain tho!!!!

The next model, the RC149 in 1966 was made entirely out of magnesium.
Had a 5 cylinder 125cc with a crankshaft that was a 3 cylinder with conrods 120 degrees apart and then a 2 cylinder that was 180 degrees apart with the camshaft drive between them. The pistons were 35mm diameter.
It revved to 23,000 rpm and stalled below 17,000 rpm !!!
