Well, I finally got the DR back on the road

Called AMI for a insurance quote, I had to come in and talk to a manager.
After talking to Neil Coffin about insurance and my 'dangerous use' conviction, things seemed to be looking good.
He said, I will give you a call tomorrow.
I remembered that police ad about the guy calling up for insurance cause of his speeding fines, and not being able to get it....
Got the call the next day, no problem, a slightly higher excess for the first 12 months, no hike in premiums.
So I called kiwibike to see if they could at least match it, no such luck.
So AMI it is then!

So they didn't insert a clause indemnifying them in the event you ride the DR over that bridge then?.

Good to know you're back on the road Johnnie. Just in time for summer!.

I use AMI to insure my car - they are an outstanding company in every way - I haven't insured the bike there 'cos they were dearer than the others - they said at the time they were risk averse when it came to insuring bikes - at least they were honest and I appreciated that

Yes, AMI are a good Insurance company, to deal with. Even though they are dearer. I have my bike insured with them. Along with everything else.

Never had a problem with AMI. Been with them forever with house, contents and vehicle policies. Always been quick and fair.

+ + I have both my bikes and cars plus everything else with AMI and have done for years, on the couple of occasions I've had to claim they've been really quick at paying out and on one of those occasions even assisted me with a small claims action against the other driver.
I guess it depends on your insurance history and location, but I've found that Kiwibike are only slightly cheaper but have a higher excess and won't do agreed value without farting around with dealer valuations every year. On my CBX it even has no depreciation being a collectible bike!
Can't recommend AMI enough :D

+1 on AMI.

I'm under 25, on my learners and had a no claims bonus of 40% from my scooter insurance.

Cheap excess and premium.

We have been with AMI for over thirty years. Insurances on house, contents, two cars, a viola and a bike. Costs average over $1500 a year. That is about $45000 we have paid. That is alot of money for peace of mind.

Had one prang in my car and wife keeps backing into folk. AMI always good. There help line was a boon when I bent the car and was a bit dazed.

Several years ago our whole family was with AMI. THe problem was our local office and a FUCKEN bitch working there. The manager (he may have left) was a bit of a plonker too. I had an accident involving mummy's car and asked them for advice of who was too blame. Now this was interesting coming from the place you insurer with, the manager's response was "did they do anything wrong?". "Not really I suppose" I replied. "So you are to blame." Because this was some years ago when I was a bit green, I accepted that although it didn't seem a good/logical reason at all.

I queried a few other insurance companies months later as well as a cop and driving instructor and they all came up with the same result, dumb logic they were at fault.

This was the start of a downward spiral. The folks would question if they could make little claims over the years (i.e. glasses, freezers from power failures etc) and the call centre would, for some reason, always say to go to the office and they'll sort them out. Every time the bitch would tell them they were silly and couldn't claim for these sorts of things.

After they finally left, they checked policy wording and they could have made claims. Long story short, complaint was made, apology was given, training was given, damage was done.

In the end, AMI lucked out on insurance for 3 houses, 7 cars and 2 motorbikes.

It just seemed bloody stupid that we always got referred to the office. We always asked if we could do it another way because the office were idiots and they always replied that since they had an office local we had to use it.

I would almost guarantee they would have changed now. May try them in the future, but I'm happy with who we have and they've always suggested what I should claim for.
