DVDShrink does me just fine, thank you very muchos.

Shame about the big companies stepping on some poor guy though.

DVD X Copy is by far the best one step option

It doesn't really need to be updated. 3.5.4.0 is pretty much perfect. Remember to keep your install files if you change computers tho.

Which leads me to a question.

I'm having problems with a DVD I'm backing up (Kill Bill 2).

I keep getting a Data Error (Cyclic Redundancy Check) which you would normally get with a scratched DVD.

I'm running DVD Shrink 3.2 with Nero 6.3.12.5 Enterprise Edition. DVD-burner is a Samsung TS-H552U running latest firmware (TS-H552U_US06.BIN).

Machine is an AMD Athlon 64 3500+, Foxconn NF-4UK8AA (NForce4 board), 2048MB RAM, Seagate ST3200822AS SATA HD, so no worries about the grunt.

Has anyone else encountered these problems? I can't even copy the files off without the error so it weird, as this is a brand new disc.

I got that problem once. When borrowing a CD-R off a friend.

It had that error on every single computer I tried it on. Except his own.

Yeah, usually you would get that if someone burnt at 52x on a 4x disk or something like that. But since it's a legimate DVD you are talking about my experience doesn't help you at all =-(

I had the same problem with some DVDs i wrote on my drive. if it happens all the time try a different brand dvd's or try writing at lower speed.

ultimate fix i guess would be to get a new dvd writer :niceone: and this time go for quality in stead of price

"when i shop computer i look for quality........ Year right:killingme

Have you used DVD Rescue? comes with DVD X-Copy Platinum.

If you able to find version 3.2.1 of Platinum and download it, i can email you a crack.

I've experienced this problem when backing up DVD's in the past. I changed my brand of blank DVDs and the problem dissapeared. I don't know if there's a link, but a web site I visited told me that if you use 'cheap' DVDRs you can experience problems like this.

Are you using the correct format DVDRs? Remembering the ole -/+ issues. Is your burner capable of handling both the - & + formats?

Try these sites. Download a FREE DVD Decrypter then use DVD shrink. It works for me.

Do you mean, use DVD shrink to decrypt then use DVD DECRYPTOR to burn? I think that is the way.

I think the main advantage with using DVD SHRINK to rip is you can adjust the compression of the burnt video. So you can increase compression for the menus and all that and reduce compression for the main video. Most DVD's have more storage than our normal DVD+R and DVD-R, so there will be compression required. You can also choose which streams of video you want burnt on to your copy DVD.

I found that DVD X Copy Platinum did the copying great, but lacked features. I guess, depends how fancy you want to get. heheh..

Other way around. DVD Decrypter to decrypt the DVD and get around the encryption, then DVD shrink to compress the DVD file in order to get it to fit on a DVD. Well - that's what I do anyway.

I do mine round the other way. DVD shrink, open it up and decrypts etc.... and you adjust compression etc...... then it links itself to DVD decryptor so it burns it through there. All in one process, i don't have to open up dvd decryptor. When you have pressed 'backup' in DVD shrink, go and look through the options, there is one "burn with dvd decryptor". It saves me alot of hassle. :niceone:

Once you have it decrypted, and dvd shrink has compressed, what do you use to burn? Nero?

Yup. I'll have to give it go, maybe tonight, the other way around. Sounds a lot 'cleaner' than the way I do it.

Well, thanks for the replies folks.

A couple of things though.

The DVD burner is 2 weeks old.

Samsung Dual Layer DVD-/+R TS-4552U with latest firmware.

I am trying to COPY files OFF a retail DVD to make a backup, not Writing DVD's The problems is in the READING.

I thought it might be an encryption thing but no, it seems to be the actual disc itself as heaps of others have no problems.

I'll try DVD Rescue - hadn't thought of that. I've got it at home.

As for decryption. I use DVD43. Works great

Of, and of course - Nero.

I was using DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink, but I've moved on to something more easier and quicker....CloneDVD2. Takes about 40 mins from wo to go for the average movie and using 4x discs, and it's a no-brainer to use. :niceone:

How exactly are your sucky computer skills preventing you appreciating the fine product? :motu:

DVD Xcopy as I said before - single step only - no issue - it does the compression and writing - much easier - sound and video is kept in tact.

With Disks - remember some DVD Players won't read '-' format DVD's (this includes some high end players) and double layer is next to useless as most Players don't yet use this format (and aren't likely to given the Gigabyte and Blueray formats)

Use ANyDVD to bypass any copy protetion, zoning etc. I use CloneDVD to fit standard (dual layer) DVDs onto DVDR (single layer). DVD shrink does the same job.

I use DVD Decrypter, DVD Shrink, and Nero.

I use DVD Decrypter to check for and remove advanced copy protection which DVD srhink cant handle (Bad sectors, RCE, etc). From memory I dont think DVD Shrink removes some of the locking as well (what stops you skipping the copyright warnings / studio logos etc on most DVD's).

DVD Shrink is great, it allows a reasonable degree of customizing how you reencode, whilst not being anywhere near as complicated and user unfriendly as say gordian knot.

Nero is hands down the best CD/DVD writing software around. It's somewhat user friendly, but has alot of depth and power if you turn off the stupid wizards and turn on some of the advanced options.

Followed the links for DVD Shink from Kazaalite to here Doom9.org - Usefully Software (http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/mpg/dvdshrink31-main.htm) and was able to download DVD Decrypter as well as DVD Shink from there, no worries.<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->
