Still think Josh Freese (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s0Rdn1n8yW4) is the man.

Too many Youtube links to Stewart Copeland. I played the drums thinking I was him. I wasn't.

i believe their primary function is to keep time for the band.

Some do this better than others, some bands of course, can't keep time even with their drummers help.

No it isn't. If you can't keep your own time you shouldn't be in a band.

Not for the "real" Fear Factory he doesn't. Raymond Herrera is the man in that regard.

Just youtube'd him - he is a beast also.

My favourite out of the two has to be Gene though - mainly cos Pickles is just pure awesome in cartoon form.

I love Gene's drumming, but I like his song writing more.

even the worlds best symphony orchestras have conductors

Who aren't there to keep time.

They're there to impose their own interpretation of well known scores and in some cases create arrangements for orchestras using instruments for which the pieces weren't written, and in most cses they're there to tease the very best performance from individuals and orchestras. Conductors have more in common with a drill sergeant than a metronome. They often also run the business side of an orchestra. I can guarantee you that people with poor internal time don't last long with a decent conductor at the helm.

had an epic headbang to Fear Factory at big day out just gone. I was in two minds if I should go or not, Muse were amazing but fark managed to watch Fear Factory from about half way back (couldn't push past any more sweaty bogans) and faaaark they're good.

Opened with linchpin. Good idea.

Fear Factory are AMAZING live and always have been, even with line up changes.
