Been flat out at work this morning... Ogranising what time we're heading to Glen Murray next Sunday.

I'm sure all of you on here are aware of how they work - I've attached the flyer as I downloaded it earlier this morning.

Sign on from 8:45am, track open from 9:45 - 14:45.

Who else is heading down? Weather forecast is looking hot and sunny so I hope I haven't jinxed it.

I'm thinking about it, I've had enough of crashing into pine trees so some open space would make a bit of a change.

Put me down as a probable.

I hope there's no swamp... Last year Glen Murray was my first ever ride, mates went up the hill and I tackled the mud bog.

This year Glen Murray will be my first ride since breaking my foot 10 weeks ago. I hope my shiny new Tech 7s don't get dirty

Just got back from marking the loop,.

Main Loops is approx 32km, it is a pretty cool loop, it is quite dry out there so it will be a bit dusty,

new for this year is a approx 5km family/kids loop, this is for kids and learners who are to big for the mini loop, who need a bit more of a challange, but 32km is a bit to far,

you will be kicked off it if you are to fast and are carving up people, this has its own start and finish and does not use any part of the main loop, this is something we are trying for the 1st time this year,

Any mud bogs on the main loop? Last year there was the small loop which did join onto the main loop - was good to go around to warm up & in my case get some confidence before attempting the main loop. Will similar be there this year or has that gone & replaced with the 5km family/kids loop you mention?

scott411
26th November 2010, 15:28
not really, a couple of small holes, but it is pretty dry out there, nothing to hard in the main loop and it is a bit shorter than it has been in previous years.

the small loop was not ment for people to warm up on it was ment for poeplet that were not confident on the main loop, that is why we have completly seperated it this year, also we had some issues with smaller kids getting knocked around by people on the start and finish of the main loop, it just did not work like we ment it to, but we learn, and go on and try new stuff like we are this weekend,

Completely understand what you're saying about the smaller loop with having 2 small kids who ride myself. Last year i didn't have many hours on a bike under my belt so the learners track was great for the morning then in the arvo i had the confidence to get on the big track.

The advanced learner loop is a great idea.

Thankfully this week has screamed past, just one more day! Best news this afternoon is that I got given a brand new Mitsi Triton ute to demo for the weekend - perfect for Sunday!

by the time we get back from doing the sweep loop it is always after 4.00pm, we use working farms so stock needs to be put back etc, the loops open at 9.45 so 5 hours to get out the gate before it closes is a pretty good day

Really cool ride, hothot weather, sign in people were friendly, cool stuff :)
Only gutting bit (aint there always one?) at one point I got cross rutted, bailed, hit my head on the bars and was down for a while lying face down feeling pretty yucky. People just rode right past my feet (I landed a bit off the side of the track, very visible though), not a single person came and asked if I was ok, pretty messed up I thought. I don't expect people to come rescue me if they don't want, but if I saw someone lying face down with a crashed bike I'd at least ask if they were alright :/ Once the daze wore off I picked my bike up, a marshall came past and asked if I needed help (was ok by that point) but yeah, really shocked no one offered to help or anything of the 20 or so people who went past in that time.
Anyway, not be a bummer, it was cool fun, good job Mr Moto crew, Glen Murray is always cool :)

Yeah that sucks, unfortunately you had the wrong 20 people go past you because for every one of them that didn't stop i know a person that would have, was a good day,hot and dusty and rough in parts(gotta take the good with the bad),but still a great days fun........Cheers Scott,Craig and the MR's Team

:)

I hd a great day and was lucky that on the 2nd lap around I didn't do so well on 2 bog sections and couple of guys came to give me a hand out - one swallowed my bike!
However L-Rider and I stopped on a hill as there was a young kid down (where was his adult....? ) but no one at all stopped for him. We got him back up but the walk up to my bike almost killed me in my gear. But thankfully a guy asked if I needed a hand to get back going again and was really great.

95% of the riders were great but when you need it most it is the 5% that go past! Shame really as the more we help each other the bigger and better the sport gets.

BUT....WICKED WICKED DAY. This is my favourite ride and will keep coming back and will keep telling new riders about it. WELL DONE

I think that it's rude to ride past someone that has obviously had a crash and is still lying there; especially given that it's in a trail ride - like scenario! I for one always make sure those that are even pulled off to the side of the track are OK, simply giving them the thumbs up or something; it's just being polite.

On the other hand I thoroughly enjoyed the day, the track was awesome! Had a good mix and was marked out well. A little rough and dusty but it was good fun! I managed two laps of the big 32km loop. Not bad for someone like myself who only gets out on the bike once or twice a month! Rode at my own pace with a few other friends. It was awesome. I always really enjoy the MR Motorcycles rides! Definitely one of the better series. The beer seems to taste better too? ha. I heard there were something like 1100 riders there?! Crazy.

Props must go out to the marshals, they did their job properly! On both my laps, the same 3 came past me, all on MR Motorcycles KX's. Number #3, #114 and #900. Not too sure who they were? (Scott411?), but all looked to be having fun! (Anyone else see them?). Quite skilled riders from what I could see. Although they came past me like I was bolted to the ground, they made sure they were safe passes and slowed down a lot when around the younger ones on the trail! Good stuff. All the marshals looked good on the Kawasaki's, like a team! It must be awesome for Scott and Craig to see.

Bring on Paparimu!

No piccies today, managed to get 4 hrs 13 mins on the hour meter, 4 and a bit laps (don't ask!) Helped a couple of kids out from under their hondas and in both cases Dad turned up after said kid was ready to go again, lamenting the fact the little buggers are now faster than him  Sophie zipped round 3 times and Grace, who now disappears into the distance did 4 and is about 10mins a lap quicker than me
This is my favourite ride of the year and certainly didn't disappoint this time.
Roll on 2011, cheers Scott and "one or two" helpers......

that would have been Luke Ramsey, Hamish Stone and Van Major (who posts as Sunday Casual on here) they helped us out tody, Hamish is one of our parts guys, all three of those boys can ride pretty good,

awesome ride today, 1115 riders, which is a record for us, thanks to everyone that showed up, it was dusty but we can not control the weather,

as for poeple riding past while you are face down, its pretty disappointing, most of the time people all help each other, shame to see, not to sure how this happens,

Big thanks to the Pukekohe Motorcycle LCub medic crew who helped us out today as well,

had a wicked day on the new bike, there were a couple of parts of the track that could bite you if you werent watching, saw lots of bodies on the ground on my last lap around those drains. also helped a couple of people who had taken a spill.

cool day out with some good riding buddies..

Great day out, very hard and dust terrain, only managed 2 loops before the heat and lack of recent riding took its toll on me.

A few funnies today...
- The dude that turned up in a tiny yellow Suzuki with his bike crammed in the car next to him!
- Me day dreaming and following Phil after he missed a turn off.
- Scott and passenger motoring in the buggy towards the start gate to open it for the track sweap marshalls, hit a big bump and kicked the rear up. How your passenger stayed in I don't know! :gob:

Scott, it's just people behaving badly unfortunately, I had a couple of guys determined to pass where there was no room and one prat that refused to stop while we moved an injured rider but the other 1113 where helpful and considerate.
Spiked Punch, there is no excuse for people not stopping when your obviously in need of assistance, next time crash near me, I promise to stop.......

Just a thought, maybe a spoken briefing is needed that covers these points (I understand the impracticalities of this) as people will take more notice of that rather than a written briefing paper?

Bit dusty tho! :shit:

we have talked about going back to riders breifings, but with over 1000 riders the likely hood of everyone hearing or paying attention puts us off them,

i know most poeple would stop, it suprises me that many people passed with out stopping,

Had a great day,Good to see Oldguy out having a blast again, was surprised how many crashes there were, hope none to serious,i think some riders take these trail rides to serious there were plenty of places to pass safely if you took your time.
See Ya at the next one.

Great ride!

Had two close calls. One was some guy who I was trying to get out of the way for, but that wasn't happening fast enough apparently.

Then a quick kid went hooning past me through really thick dust and pretty much off the trail and into some trees. :o Not sure what that was about but he really wanted to get past me.

I think people must have had some pent up trail riding urges or something.

Well run event though, congrats. Oh and SpikedPunch lost a $10 note out there somewhere, finders keepers! :innocent:

Yeah, I dunno what that was about aye. Maybe if someone sees one person go past they just follow and go past too? Dunno. It was nearish the end of the track (next to an electric fence-that's probably not very descriptive) near the end of day, maybe people were just focused on getting back in. Put a bit of a damper on the day, but not much, was still an awesome ride :)

we were there and had a ball!!
MR rides are the highlight of the season in my book - LOVED the big grassy hills on my 125 heh heh heh powerband is lotsa fun
My girl had her first ride on a crf230 - goodbye crf85 you have been retired (yay) she put the willies up me afew times with her hoonish behaviour, but overall very pleased that she could handle the big loop at a decent pace.
Counting down to Paparimu now.
Awsome stuff Scott and crew - you all deserve a beer - will be bringing afew slabs down to Paparimu for all your help last year, any preferences?

my 2cents on ppl that dont stop for injured riders is that they are just selfish wankstains - we wouldve helped ya Spiked Punch :sunny:
