Hi, my name's Carl, my mates call me Chaos (AKA The Chaos Warrior, originates from an old stage name from a band i used to be in), I joined this site today. :whocares:
Not only am i new to this site but also to the NZ bike scene in general so through this site i am hoping i can find some answers to the many questions i have. :scooter:
I came to NZ, this time on 10/10/10 and my bike (Aprilia RSV1000 Mille), arrives on 06/12/10 but that's just the start of this saga. :violin:
As soon as said bike arrives i shall be making it legal to use here ( W.O.F. Rego etc :argh: ), then delivering it to the bike shop where i have waiting for me a 2007 Honda CBR1000rr Fireblade (in red and black), and to say i can't wait is a massive f**king understatement ! :wings:
Being as i am a newbie to all things here i have loads of questions, such as :- Where can i get a decent rear seat cowl. Where is the best place to get new tyres and what tyre is best to use. How can i get involved in rides/meets and events etc. Is it ok to use semi-synthetic oil in the Fireblade when my Aprilia has always used fully synthetic. Is it possible to get Avon Storms over here and are they suitable for my Fireblade. etc etc blah blah :zzzz:
Any help to all those would be greatly appreciated and i/we look forward to being a part of this scene just as soon as i can get on two wheels ! :woohoo:
Cheers,
Chaos :devil2:

Ditto and you'll get those answers whether you like them or not:laugh:

To address two questions - Semi- synthetic should be fine, but what exactly are you buying, 70%/30% or perhaps 99.999%/.001%? Mobil1 4T 15W-50 can be purchased at $55+gst, so probably the same or less than you'd pay for semi-synth.

Avon Storms are available here, although the Michelin PR2 is probably more popular in the ST line.

Hi Chanceyy, thanks for that, will do on the keeping you updated about the Blade, :woohoo: cant bloody wait to be back on two wheels ! :ar15: i drove mine up to London (250 miles), to be boxed/crated up to be shipped out here on 08/10/10 and the only other rides i have had since were the two test drives we went on since being here. :scooter:
I was going to keep mine seeing i went to the trouble/expense of shipping it over here as i have not had it long, but when i saw the prices of things here and the trade ins that people were prepared to give me I'd be stupid not to trade mine in.
I have already had to eat some humble pie since being over here :not: as we went to the bike shop in the first place to test a nice R1 i saw advertised ( the first test drive was for a Ducati 999 but after much research found the maintainence/service costs to be way too high to sustain ), I have always been a Yam man, mainly due to an unpleasant experience with buying a Honda CB250RS after passing my test and it " being a bad un " so the shop owner told me and swapping it for a RD250LC, which i loved ! and while we were waiting for the sales guy to come over we spotted the Fireblade, which we eventually decided to take out instead, glad i did cos it was unf**kingbelieveable :gob: to ride !
We decided to go for the blade instead, was a bit more money that the Ducati and the trade in was not so enticing but i have still more than double my money, going from an 03 to an 07 bike in the process so it's win win really. :wings:
Mine ( Aprilia RSV thou ), lands on 06/12/10 so after clearing all that crap and me making it legal to ride here :bs: we should be looking at the 13th / 14th of December before being able to pick the Blade up. :blip:
Just in time to get some nice rides in on these cool as f**k roads you have here. :niceone:
Hope to catch you then.
Just in case you aint guessed, I'm originally from the UK. :sherlock:
Cheers,
Chaos. :devil2:

Thanks for that Owl :niceone: I don't know exactly what the oil grade is yet, I am picking the bike up from a dealer ( Cyclespot ) and have been told it will be serviced and that they use semi-synthetic and not fully synthetic as they get it in a job lot, to keep costs down i assume, I'll be sure to get what grade it is when i collect it though. :msn-wink:
So where do you think the best place is for tyres please ? :)

Couldn't resist it when we took the Blade out though, it was soooo f**king responsive no matter what i asked it to do, i was blown away ! :gob:

Drury Performance have a good rep by all accounts. http://www.tires.co.nz/accessories.htm

Cycletreads. http://www.cycletreads.co.nz/products/482-road_sport_tyres.aspx

If you're hooked on Storms, any bike shop should be able to get them, as Dold Industries are the wholesaler.

Ok, after a bit of digging the best i can come up with so far are Michelin Pure's (think that's what he said, haha !) from Cycletreads at 600 bucks on the bike! (:gulp:)
:shit:
Now i just gotta get butt whipped :spanking: on a rear seat cowl as all the yank online things i found won't ship international, selfish bar stewards.

Have you tried Cycletreads? They often do a good deal at times there. a mate just fitted up a set of PR2's there for $560.
Would recommend them to anyone the PR2's. I have a set that i am due to change shortly that have done nearly 12000k. Stick like the proverbial S***t to a blanket in both wet and dry.
Welcome.

Hi Grubber, thanks, yeah it was Cycletreads (my mistake, ooops) that quoted me the Michelin Pure's for six hundred, he was raving about them, even after me explaining what i use and why, apparently the roads are different over here, no shit :sherlock: lmao !
Drury's can do Storms for $600 but i am thinking i may give the Pure's a try at Cycletreads, unless i can find a better deal in the meantime as i am not desperate for new boots right now, just wanted to put in the groundwork if ya know what i mean. :msn-wink:

Welcome to KB, got me set of pure's from Cicletreads, good tires  better grip then pilot powers 2ct, ease to toss it around -more control, and last me longer:love:it.

Give Motorcycle Doctors a call as well when the time comes for your rubber — they've got a mobile tyre fitting service and their prices are very sharp.

Thanks Din Pelenda, i think from what the guy said on the phone when i spoke to him that i will go for the Pure's, what is surprising is how much more expensive it is over here for stuff, right through from Rego / Tax to insurance, tyres etc, maybe there's a nicer roads charge built into the prices. :killingme

Hiya Chaos,

I'd allow nearly 14 days for customs - we just shipped all our stuff from Ireland and it was nearly two weeks to clear. I picked my baby up last Saturday, it's like being reunited with an old friend (who likes to hurt you every now and then)

If anyone spots a black 1198s up norfland way, feel free to wave, it's so lonely on these empty roads.

Just realized you said Pilot Pures. They are different to the PR2's. I was informed they hold on real good in the dry but tend to wear a lot quicker. The PR2's are a better all rounder and they will be cheaper.

Ouch ! *sigh* Thanks for letting me know Reggie, mine lands on 06/12/10 so am just hoping to fe*k that it clears in time before Christmas as it will be going straight to the shop where my trade in is waiting for us, we are away for the Christmas break on boxing day so want to have it to take with us. :wings:
Nice bike you have btw :msn-wink: we were looking at a Tripple Nine before settling on the Blade but the service costs put me off ! :gob:
