Cleaning leathers after/during a stinky hot summer

My main concern with my leathers is the sweating which is going to occur throughout the summer causing them to stink & feel yuck after awhile. I don't have a removable liner, so I can't just chuck it in the wash. Any idea's of how to clean a leather jacket and pants? I just use a damp cloth to wipe the exterior of bugs etc, but my main concern is how to clean the inside liner which is absorbing the sweat straight from the skin.

Or is it best to just wear an under suit which absorbs the sweat from your body?

Rub yourself down with soap, put your leathers on, and go for a swim. To dry just ride round and round in circles really fast.

Or just use an Antiperspirant.

I find that a single layer of lightweight merino thermals underneath helps a lot...warm in winter, cool in summer. AND they don't stink even when they are as manky as hell...:whistle:

I love the idea of the slip and slide. Reminds me of a episode of Nitro Circus where they had a mammoth one going through a forest. At least we wouldn't get hurt charging into the trees.

Wearing compression gear like Skins underneath helps keep you cool and the leathers don't get smelly or stick to you when it comes time to take em off. If you're a real smelly bastard then a can of dettol spray + airing them out should kill the worst of the odour.

Being perfect has its advantages, one is that my sweat smells like lynx:innocent: ...

oh sorry I meant to say Lynx pee:rofl: I just air all my gear out on the washing line, don't really clean it as such, I do use Autoglym leather care cream though to feed them (they do get so hungry at times:scratch:)

This has been covered, before, but is worth taking time to repeat.

Turn them inside out and liberally sponge the lining with the cheapest vodka you can find. Hang them inside out in the sun to dry, then consume as much of the remaining vodka as you need to. Seriously, it truly works. The spirit and the UV kill the bacteria that makes the stink and dissolves the body oils that have soaked into the lining. Don't worry if you get it on the leather, but don't let it get soaked.

You can wash leather, but is strips away the waxing and oils that you need to be at least partially water/wind proof and they will need to be replaced. Save the slip'n'slide for bare skin and a 'good' friend.:love:

Wonder if isopropyl alcohol would work? I use it diluted with distilled water to clean my records. Just thinking it would be cheaper, costs bugger all from a pharmacy.

Still wear my leather jacket I got 20 years ago. Never washed it and does not stink.
I guess riding in Wellington winters has kept it clean :blink:
