Looking to get more into Adventure riding for which the 990 SMR is not ideal so selling to buy a F800GS.

SMR is like new (Bought in August 2010 so three months old).

Comes with
-Bark Buster Storm
-Heated Grips
-SMT Lower seat (plus SMR seat)
-Leo Vince Sound System
-o2 Eliminators
-Airbox opened
-Custom Givi luggage rack assembly
- KTM stickers (some spare)

Has had the latest Akrapovic map uploaded into the ECU at Superior Motorcycle in Christchurch where I bought the bike, the SAS system has been removed and the second and third restrictor disabled with the Akra map, this runs as strong as an OX and has more grunt than a paddock full of pigs.

Bike owes me $28252.00 with everything above Ready To Race, has 1 3/4 years warranty on her still.

Second photo is on the purchase day, will take some more photos, has some KTM stickers and Leos other than that it looks the same, will upload some pics after work with some pornographic closeup shots.

Please note TARD plate NOT included in sale.

If you are interested lets talk, andi@delisqs.co.nz .

Nice. Friendly Local Motorcycle Shop has a tempting 990SMT in store...

Question: Why did KTM stop making these?

Apparently FLMS is simply awaiting the return of appropriate riding documentation to the rightfull owner in order to unleash SMT mounted customer upon the unsuspecting masses. Or so I've heard.

Answer: Poor retail sales is the underlying reason any brand discontinues any model.

Both are still in production as I understand it?

... I know where you can get a SMR weapon with a SMT seat :woohoo:

Sad, because I have ridden said lonely and forlorn looking "ex-demo". It is a Peach. The nit picker in me has some issues with the instrumentation, and the original asking price was a bit severe. But my golly goodness me, it's a lovely thing to ride, even two-up.

Not according to KTM New Zealand's sub-optimal web site.

Dunno Hitch, really dunno. My 08 SM has longer suspension travel, and it makes NZ roads an absolute piece of cake. Only downside is you expect all bikes to handle like it, ruining you in the future.

What a beast!

I rode the first 950SM when it came to NZ. Damn that was nice.

Yep these are still being made, the 990SMR is the new (as of this year) version of the older 950SMR. Stunning bike mate, exactly what I'm after just 12 months too soon...need more cash dammit.

All the reviews hold this model as being far better in every way than the Hypermotard EVO SP, although I wouldn't say no to either!

Why dont you go back to KTM and trade it on an 990ADV as they are a better bikes than the F800GS anyway (which you will find to slow I'd say)

Cant believe you did all that to the SMR and didnt give it a chance though

Don't get me wrong, if I could afford to get both ... no prob, the SMR is a weapon, if I sell I sell if not then no biggy as we are away at the end of next year anyway for one year adv road trip from bottom of South America to Alaska over a 1 year (ish) trip

Looked at the 990, nearly 30 kg heavier and WAY too tall for me bein a short ass.

Anyway, that is where I am at, if I don't sell I will still keep chewing up tar and enjoy her. :woohoo:

800GS is not as light as the propaganda suggest at 210 kg without fuel in fact they may be heavier than the 990, It is probably true that the power would be more manageable but I suspect the suspension would be inferior though

And ones Ive seen in real life seem every bit as Big and tall as a 990 but I will do some more research on that for interest sake

This is the same with my '05 Super Duke
Any big KTM rocks but my SD makes the ducati and GSXR feel like pigs in comparison
This one looks real yummy...and if Hitcher says it was a pleasure to ride, well then consider it would be godly to most people.

Wish I could afford it............................

Not bein rude just saying the classifieds is probably not the correct place to start a KTM v GS comparo or scrap.

So I take on board what you say and you take on board what I say, have look at your posts and anyone would think you are selling KTM, you don't have to convince me how good the SMR is as I already know first hand I just want to change my direction of riding and the bike I ride .

So sorry if I offended you ... now get your cheque book out ..

I was going to suggest that since the KTM Adventure was not as different in weight and seat height to the F800GS as you may have thought that you might do OK to go back to KTM and do a deal but hey you obviously know what your doing after spending all that money on the wrong bike

It was just trying to give a bit of unappreciated fellow biker help, shezz

Dude you need help, so look in all honesty I appreciate your love and affection and guiding lights but at 44 I reckon I am old enough to steer myself in the right direction so yeap cheers for you input.

Now, if anyone IS interested in the SMR it is up for sale.
