Heya

Looking at buying a tyre changer, will force me to learn how to change mousses/tubes etc.

Looking at this one at the moment:

http://houseofcustom.co.nz/xtcommerce/product_info.php?info=p334_TYC-MOTORCYCLE-TYRE-CHANGER-BEAD-BREAKER-DIRTBIKE-NEW.html&XTCsid=n6ihpmarisq54qt874mn11evf3

Any idea if the above is any good?

Anyone recommend any others? I don't really want to have to pay to much..

Cheers!

can't really justify $200 for changing 3 tyres a year so went to beaurepaires and asked for an old 13inch car tyre.

doesn't hold it quite as steady as the $200 device but it keeps the sprocket and brake off the ground and a rubber mallet from supercheap makes a good bead breaker.

Dont these tyre "changers" just provide a work platform to hold the sprocket/disk off the ground? Why would you need one for dirt tyres? I mean nice to have, but dirt tyres don't really need a bead breaker, breaking the "bead" with your hands is pretty easy. For tubes mounting the tyre just needs a couple of short spoon tyre irons or three to make it easier, for mousses I think you need 5 or so of the long type. At home in the garage to hold the rim off the ground I my large plastic rubbish bin, this holds an 18" or 21" rim perfectly. I have only had to change tubes once out of the garage and I used a plastic cube box which normally holds my fuel cans to provide a tyre stand. If you are changing a tyre you can use the new or old tyre as a work stand if needed.

I can't justify that cost either. I just have a tyre stand that the wheel sits on which cost me $80. It's an NSPC one. Don't need anything fancy. And as for popping the bead, MX tyres don't have that heavier bead on them and can be broken by yours knees/arms.

Can people on here seriously not change a tyre?! Stuff paying $20 odd dollars every time I want a tyre changed. Takes me about 10 minutes, although I have had a few years experience.

I'm running mousses front and rear, I don't want to be using them for anything other than races. I can't afford another set of rims so I'll be needing something that's half decent so I can whip of good tyres and put on old ones. It would be used a lot.

Shrug I dunno.

For changing mousses, slightly different.

I've changed mousses also, personally I found them easier because I wasn't worried about puncturing a tube. Just means you can attack a bit easier.

That's right.

Basically I'm not wanting to wear out my mousses which cost quite literally an arm and a leg. So I'm needing something that'll be easy to use.

I'm liking the sound of this, I'm crap @ changing tires & turning them around would be a handy thing, having mouses just for races sounds a good plan, especially as you flip a new tire on anyways.

Don’t you need 8 levers to change a moose too? Still the best to stop punctures though they say they only last for 6 months but ive seen riders take them out in bits and still put them back. The difference in traction with and without a moose is very noticeable too.

Exactly. You don't really need mousses for training at at woodhill or whatever, it's a bit overkill. The mousses do wear out, I want to get as much use as possible for the races.

Yeah. Matt from Watsons has a funky machine that does it pretty quick :P

You only need 4 levers, my mate caleb has been teaching me how to do it. I got 4 of trademe for $50.

They last for about a yeqr of racing.

Anything that makes changing tyres easier is a good idea in my books!
