Parties want to say, that they will make a difference to their country. If bikers put forward an idea that a politician can steal and claim as their own idea because it will help them get into parliment then we should give them something to act on. For example, 'improving Rider training' could be the politicians new initiative, this should lower road accidents, injuries, fatalities and in turn lower acc costs. This means that the politician feels they have made a difference to society and bikers also benefit. But it will also have equal terms where we help them to get in and they help us...

Am i thinking along approiate lines or am i completely on the wrong track?

Now, that's an angle that has real merit.

But is this how it would work in the real world?

I'd amend your suggestion to 'Improved learner rider training'.

It has been established that Advanced rider training is never going to gain Government support and it's also immediately apparent that far too many motorcyclists are getting their BHS certificate without the slightest idea how to survive on the roads.

That is a good point. Because the BH test isnt all that good, but having a skills course that must be completed during the licence period once you have got that hang of riding may be beneficial. Do you agree that this course should also cater for fully licenced riders to refresh their skills with? Just an idea.

I definately think it should be readily available to fully licensed riders as well.

A large portion of the training should be about hazard awareness and the correct avoidance procedure.

politicians should be putting forward things like this to both gain votes and help the biker community as well as other road users.

And if we can be seen to be suggesting it to the politicians imagine how that could improve our image.

That's not how it works though, change only comes when the community step up and ask Govt for change based on evidence (of which is overwhelming, hence all the attention) while providing the platform or solution with which to do so.

An interested or up and coming MP may ask or discuss..

As an example; If it's training required...who will fund this, who will provide for it, how do we get motorcyclists into training, is the proposal suggesting it to be compulsary or apart of licensing, if so would there be enough certified trainers?

Don't we already have training programs available, why can't existing programs NZTA approved be utilised or expanded, what's the current content? etc etc, a good idea to pre-empt and cover possible questions.

Provide some information and cost benefits to the MP of choice. You basically sell 'it', and 'it' must be beneficial.

Always pays to have a meeting to feel the situation out with information which addresses the topic you want to cover, find out what's possible and be involved in leading change.

That's the positives for working with, rather than against.

There's been quite a bit proposed and tabled the last couple of years, have a nosey around KB in this section, we'll know what's next fairly soonish I'd imagine!

Thanks, i dont fully understand what is available already and what has already been proposed and said, as i havnt been riding bikes very long, and dont know much about how the political system works around these issues as im only 17. Sorry if i am completly wrong about this, but this was what i thought could be done, but i may be on the totally wrong track about this.

Aww, don't be sorry. You are on the right track!!

Your original post is how things appear to work, dependant on the situation, how it's developed and with whom I guess..

I, for one, don't think you're wrong and I don't think that being young and idealistic is wrong either. Our future is with the young and so many of you think outside the square; something that myopic old folk don't tend to do.

May I suggest you get in touch with some up-and-coming politicians for pointers on how to get your point across to those who can act on the positives. Even (although it pains me to suggest it) get in touch with the media. It may just be that if you strike the right person (long shot, I know) you might get some coverage that will motivate the right politician. Having said that, politicians will often try to gain political points using your agenda to save time writing their own, if you get my drift.

You won't know until you try. But please do.:niceone:

Here's a thought. Why not stand as an MP ? Bloody good money for doing fuck all as far as I can see. If you do maybe I will vote for the first time.

I don't think politicians really give a flying one about bikers.
They know you'll vote for either whoever isn't cocking up the country at the time, or the party in power that seems to being not a bad job.
If you believe a politician who promises to help us out, then I've got directions to the end of a rainbow, all yours for just 20 bucks.
Excuse my cynicism, but promises of lowere ACC levies will be later evaluated by a commitee who advises delaying for an indefinite period.
I can cope with the levies if my income is raised to account for it, so as per usual, income tax, GST, and dumping the carbon bollocks counts more for me.

As for training, fix the bloody roads so I don't have to leaern how to counter two tyres going sideways!

Why would you sell it so cheap, wouldnt you just got take the pot of gold for yourself, it should be worth more than 20.
