Donington Park owner Kevin Wheatcroft praised motorcycle racing fans as he agreed deals that will see British and World Superbike racing return to the midlands circuit.

Wheatfroft took over the circuit once again after the disastrous attempt by the former owners to stage the Formula One Grand Prix. He repaired significant damage caused by the former owners digging up the track and imposed modifications to the layout that have met with approval from both series organisers.

Wheatcroft said the support of fans kept him going "It has been a long hard road to get the circuit reopened and, throughout everything, the fans have stood by us and believed that Donington would rise again. They wrote to say how they were counting on me to bring world class racing back to such an iconic circuit."

Donington has a three-year deal to stage the European round of the WSB series, the second of the season after the opener at Phillip Island in Australia.
