Nice that you wanna look after all that virgin skin, but it aint your place to dictate to others what to wear. Unless it becomes law, it's simply not your place. I see possibly 20 people riding sccoters past my work each day, dressed in all sorts of "inappropriate riding apparel". Can't save everyone in the world from their own decisions sorry.

I agree.. I've seen heaps of young/noob bikies in Welli riding in traffic without gloves!!
Are they not aware that 10+kph fall is enough to create enough friction heat that will cook their fingers like a sausage!!

Well said - The reason we have so many stupid bloody laws is because everyone else wants to tell us what we can and can't do. Yeah its silly riding in a T and/or without gloves BUT its not illegal AND yes I have done it AND yes I'll porbably do it again. If I come off and end up skinning myself I certainly won't be bleating to others about MY BAD JUDGEMENT.

It's taken me a while personally to get used to even wearing kevlar lined jeans without the kneee armour. Still feel odd about it. But agreed, each to their own. We can only be responsible for ourselves unfortunately. Some can't even manage that.

I just saw a young chap on an Aprilia RS125 in similar attire riding along Lambton Quay. I was jealous. He got away before the flame thrower was properly lit, dash it all.
By the sound of it I shouldn't have any limbs and stuff, the amount of times I fell off pushies at speeds of over 30 km/hr between the ages of 10 and 22. Friction should have left me with bloodied nubs.

yawn... skin grafs... who cares... be there done that... and that was on a push bike...
Till it becomes law that you must wear a suit of armour made of titanium with air bags and bubble wrap, it is peoples choice, what they wear, gloves no gloves, cyclists don't wear gloves and as some one said a 10kph spill can cause some gravel rash and may need grafiting. boots or no or sneakers and or eek jandals shorts or leather jacket or t-shirt...
Most cyclists are only wearing Lycrica and helmet that is pretty much useless as tits on a bull, get bumped over walking down town broken wrist or arm... trip over break neck in wrong (or right place) and die, slip in the shower crack skull on side of door,
While I suit up 99% of the time, it is my choice when I only where the minimum of safety gear, MY choice you have no right to tell me that I must wear full suit and bubble wrap... especially when it is not law...
Humans have accidents, and no matter what we fracking well do, we will continue to have accidents, humans make mistakes, and no matter what we fracking well do, we will continue to make mistakes, humans are so human that they think they are impurvious to damaging ourself... and well we are all going to die at some stage in life, something that you can guarentee that is going to happen... just make sure you have had fun with your life... life is to short to worry having an accident and skin grafs blah blah blah... So get over it... Life is to short, its your choice what you do with your life, and my choice what I do with my life, stop telling me how I must do this that, and what I must wear when riding... my choice not yours
Hmmm howe many red will I get

Also see cyclists including myself riding at 50km/h traffic speed or going 80km/h on hills out on the open road in shorts and tee...
That's why I sometimes wear pants and a tee when I'm just riding up to the shops or around my area 50km max because it's no different than when I'm riding my push bike, probably safer as it's a lot more stable than a bicycle.
Anything outside my area (50km+) is full leathers, no less.

Not sure I follow your logic there: I'd rather come off in shorts and tee at 50kmh on a 12kg treadly than off a 200kg motorbike in the same attire. There's a lot more energy involved with the latter option. And I certainly wouldn't fancy having a leg trapped under 200kg's of hot metal at that speed.
Actually I have come off the treadly more than a few times, once at close to that on the road and managed not to need any treatment I couldn't swear my way through myself.
Also in reply to an earlier post... I reckon more cyclists wear shortie gloves than go bare-palmed.

http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=225211Without the armour if you come off, your skin will be intact, however your patella is likely to be shattered into multiple pieces and the chances of straightening your leg again are slim.
But as people say....each to their own, until it becomes law.

one of the things that struck me in Victoria was the "motorcycle" safetly billboards that almost without exception featured scooters and people with major gravel rash. Office girly in her skirt and high heels but with a jacket and helmet no gloves =- ouch sort of stuff. But maybe thats their statistics of who gets injured and where they ride.

Image freaks man, if they rode for the fun of actually riding they would'nt be such posers....I don't think anyone of them has spent less than 5 hours working on their tough cunt look . For the record none of my gear matches, it's bought in order of best quality I can fit and afford at the time.
Whatever though I don't really care I just thought it was a bit of a piss take, I was waiting for John Travolta to turn up (think Wild Hogs...). Again for the record I have no issues with cruisers, their riders etc, just the dorks who try and look tough just because you ride one.

I get this feels almost awkward when I don't have my gear on and confidence goes down.. I could never go out on the open road and lean through twisties, I'd just freak out knowing I have a bear knee somewhere near the road.
I don't see how those guys on youtube can drag race in shorts and t etc.

In fact, the gear is much more necessary if one is NOT riding properly
