Hi all -

One of my best friends (the young lady who gave me my first motorcycle lesson) has just had her stolen bike handed back to her by the police. :Police: They were pretty cool about the whole thing, even though the bike had to be held as evidence for a while.

Anyhow, the bastard who took it has done some damage to the poor GN. The vitals are okay - engine, gearbox, etc. The dumbass was driving around with no numberplate which is how the fuzz picked him up in the first place. Parts gone: Right-hand unit including ignition, kickstand (centre stand okay), indicators, back light and numberplate mount, mirrors, petrol cap, and side oil covers. The 'Suzuki' and 'GN250' plates from the tank and oil covers are gone too. It's mostly cosmetic/repairable.

Basically, she would like to repair it, but has no idea where to source parts. We know people who are mechanical/electrical types with the right gear, so that's not a problem.

Any sources/advice you can give? (And no, she doesn't want a new bike, she's very set on repairing Sophie)

Wreckers, or TradeMe. Maybe post something in the for sale forum ?

Eek - yeah wreckers.

If she bats her eyelashes, someone might sort her out for all the parts for a good price.

Glad she got her bike back though

The bike is a GN250 2005.

Any particular wreckers? Most we've come across don't have anything useful.

Really?

Would have thought GN250 parts were in an abundance.

Yeah, the police wouldn't give it to us... you'd be joining a long list...

Surprisingly, no; most of the wreckers we can find do cars/trucks only. <_<

There are two bike wreckers on Barry's Point Road in Takapuna, bikebusters aaannnd.. the second name eludes me at the mo...

but yea go there. or any Suzuki dealer. Parts should be cheap as chips. Holeshot in Takapuna would be a safe bet!

EDIT - My old bike was recovered 3 months after it was stolen, when the guy tried to escape from police who pulled him over, then proceeded to park my bike into the front of a car and go flying through a fence. Much easier when you get the whole amount back and you can buy a new whole bike.

It's even worse when they steal it and give it back damaged I reckon

Action and Atomic merged (or one bought the other). They are a couple of doors up from Cycletreads.

Thanks for the tips, guys! We're in the middle of sourcing parts (BikeBusters and Action have been great). :2thumbsup

Will let you know how it goes. :)
