Hi there, the scooter i got came with the shark helmet, however its not in great condition. The helmet seems fairly fine to me with what i would guess to be normal scratching, nothing deep although there are a few tiny dents at the back, dents by what looks like loose gravel maybe? Anyway, the huge problem I have with it is the visor is all scratched up, hard to see through or concentrate through. i am a student on a tight budget, I can get plenty of m2r 280's for about $100 each, I have also tracked down someone who is willing to sell a brand new shark visor for $70, what should I go for? Seems to me that the better value for money lies in getting a brand new helmet for just $30 more? what is the quality difference, keen to hear some answers. Cheers

Spend the extra and get the new lid - you never know what's happened to the second hand one.

I use a Shark S500 similar to the one you are talking about. Nice helmet, but in your case has a dubious history. If it were me I'd cut the straps off it, smack it with the sharp side of an axe and drop it in the wheely bin and treat myself to a NEW helmet I could be sure hasn't already done the job is was designed to do only once.

yeah i got a shoei xr1000 that has the pinlocks and extra antio fog insert. that helmet is too big during summer though so i got a shark s500.
the shark is real cheap (compared) and lets a lot more wind noise in the ears, even though its a smaller fit?!.
also if you turn your head to look at whats on the left or right of you, the shark visor will lift, and you may loose sunnies, glasses, or get a smack in the face from debris, (bees, ciggies, rubber whatever) just at an inopportune moment.
the shoei visor has never lifted.
try both, and hey if your only on a scooter wind shouldnt be a problem, unless your jog does 120+.

+1. And then you have a helmet with a known history as well.
