i want to get into riding but i know nothing about bikes :blink: !! i need advice on where to start what kinda of bike i should get what should i be looking for what the learners test involves... anything of use

First of all, welcome!
All i would say is start slow and don't be in a rush.
Go to as many coarses as you can and learn from the experts.
There is tons of rider training days around and you will find plenty of info on here as to where to find them.
Take your time and enjoy.
Obviously a 250cc bike to get you started and by this i mean a reasonably sedate machine if you haven't ridin at all before, not some GP bike that can do 100mph in first gear.
Find a freind that has ridin for a while ( couple of years plus would be good) and get them to take you along and help you out.
There will be plenty of help from plenty of people on here.

If you have a mate with a small cc bike then get them to show you the basics, have you ridden a moped before? what sort of bikes do you like?

at the basic handling course, they will supply you a bike. if money is not a factor and you do not have mates who can teach you about motorcycles etc then I'm sure you could get some pre basic handling test lessons to teach you the basics on how to ride a motorcycle.

Yeah I was pretty green to when it came to bikes, and have only gotten my first bike for less then a week. My past experience was just a 5 minute ride on a 50cc when I was ~13.

My first steps was to get the basic handling skills certificate, you should be able to find someone who does that in your region. Very worthwhile - I took mine at Stay Upright in Palmy (highly recommend for Palmy readers), they told me what each thing on the bike does and walks you through how to ride one.

Learners license - all theory and multiple choice. I sat in the library and read the road code for motorbikes and made sure I could answer all the questions at the back of the book. Passed the test no problems.

Before I got my first bike - I read up on these forums about what to get, and you'll find good gear is very important. Plus great tips there on how to keep alive! You'll gain a lot of info and understanding of what to expect and watch out for just reading through these forums, esp those who are like us - newbies.

After that it'll be your first bike! :) What I heard was highly recommended at the Yamaha Scorpios, Suzuki GN125/250, and Honda VTR250 - bikes that are forgiving. After now owning a Honda VTR250, its superb and am very very happy with it! Been practicing everyday, today was my first trip over 50km/hr!

VTR250 is my pick of the learner bikes! They are a fabulous wee bike, they sound great, go well, easy to ride, if a bit small for my size, and will last indefinitely! V-twin power is easy to control.

As Maha said, you couldn't do better than Tricia, or QikChik for that matter, to get the best start to your biking.
