Had to go to Wellington yesterday, was on my way back going northbound towards Upper Hutt, on the new carriageway (new to me anyway). Just after the Petone turnoff ramp you go under a bridge (on a slight S bend). A car overtakes me and as soon as he is underneath the bridge suddenly applies his brakes and slows down on the outside lane. I shoots past him on the inside lane. Just a few seconds later I notice the 70km sign. Bugger. He flies past me after the 100km sign further up the road. Did he slow because of a fixed camera? Can anyone confirm if it was one the other side of that bridge please? And for future reference are there any (many) cameras along that new road from Hutt to the Picton ferry turnoff?
Thanks.

There was one beside the indoor cricket/10 pin bowling centre but I'm pretty sure that is now gone. The car driver may have thought it was still there... No others that I am aware of...

there are no fixed camera out there anymore. The one outside the old bowl land got taken down with the highway upgrade. A little further up the road though, just after the off ramp to new round-about to lower hutt, there is often a police car sitting hidden out of view tucked into the onramp.

I've also seen a few unmarked vans to the left on that stretch that appear to be speed cameras.

From what I've read, the box was there a long time, but it didn't always have a camera in it.

The speed limit is 70 km/hr well before you get to that corner that goes under the bridge. You may want to open your eyes.

One minute it's OK to bag "cage" drivers for being unobservant SMIDSY creators, then next it's OK to casually disregard speed limits cos you're on a bike.

Is that how it works? I just like to check before I buy another bike.

If you'd prefer not to have a nice orange Z750, I have just now traded a lovely Aprilia Shiver!

Phew - thanks for that. You're right , and it wasn't a case of disregarding speed limits just because I was on a bike. No excuse, should have been more observant. Have not had a clean licence for 42 years just with luck alone!
