hey all just thought I would say high. Im new to the whole biking scene but in my short few weeks of riding I have found it very fun. Im a uni student in Hamilton hence my bike is a bit rough around the edges (1984 suzuki Rg250) Yep first bike a 2 stroke some of you will be thinking :weird: i know however over the hoildays im planing to do a bit of a clean up on it so will post pics after this... so if anyone knows about porting and poilshing 2 strokes or the best way to clean out an old exhust please get in contact, i need to pick your brains haha.

Since I have been riding I feel i have learnt a lot, some pearls being while riding....
gloves are actually really needed
Shorts are actually really un-wanted
On long distance trips boxers are plain dangerious
Touching you knee on the ground without goin arse about face like the motogp guys is a lot harder than it looks

Cheer, Sam

As are other breeds.....welcome. Be careful on that RG once you get it in a state of real tune - they eat beginners.

Something must be wrong with mine then as its slow in any other spot other than power band. A fair few people who have had them say they are a quick bike, maybe I’m hard to please but I doubt it. I don’t have a benchmark, I know how about someone with a R1 or the like swaps for my bike for a bit   ...... any takers??? There is a wealth of info on tuning and modifying RGV’s but very little can be applied to the Rg due to the change from parallel to twin, introduction of power valves e.c.t. Oh well Ill have to learn by doing.

To clean out the expansion chamber's we use to pour a bit of gas in em and set them on fire.

That seemed to work.

Yeah, but it'll bugger the chrome , if any. And make you **VERY** unpopular with family and neighbours.

2 strokes or the best way to clean out an old exhust please get in contact,

Welcome aboard the site. Many years ago when I had a two stroke, used to take the baffle out of the exhaust and put a gas torch on it to clean off the buildup...made a diffirence to performance

Be careful using the gas torch method though. I used it successfully many times.

You would see a ring of red hot metal pass down along the silencer as the carbon burned . Until one day the red hot metal got too hot. And weak. Or I got too enthusiastic with the gas knobs. And the silencer bent in half , like a hinge. I had a hell of a job straightening it out. Admittedly most of the baffles and other guts had been removed, (Hm, how did that happen. Was like that when I bought it officer, honest. I never realised there was supposed to be something in there. Honest :innocent: ) which may have weakened it

Yeh never wear shorts man, who cares that they dont protect you, they go all gay and end up half way up your thighs with your boxers poking out, not cool. I did it once and never again :P Just put on a pair of jeans :D If not protective stuf, wet jeans aint much more fun :D

Haha yep mine is already very loud - and not a good loud either, more a hurry up and kill me 2 stroke sound, so im guessing a bit if silencing has been taken out already. Ill check for leaks though when i light it on fire tonight -lol man that sounds crazy. I have repaired most of the fairings and should have it painted by the end of next week same goes for the port and polish. Now i need some carbs so anyone got two 34mm mikuni side draft carbs that they wanta get rid of ? haha. When i get this back to together id be keen to take it for a spin and see what the difference is, im painting it red so it should go heaps faster!. Im in New Plymouth for the uni holidays so if there are anyone in NP that’s keen for a bit of a ride in 2 weeks time im in.
