Dublin calling... and looking for help! (Suzuki Street Magic)

Hiya,

trawling the 'net looking for info on my new (to me) ride.
it's a suzuki streetmagic. (stop laughing! - it belongs to my Wife - i'll set her on ye! :shit:).
ANYhow,
this place seems to have more interest and info on these little beasties than ANYwhere else on the planet?! :blink:.
ours is a Japanese import (over here - we often buy what you reject).
i need help (mental help perhaps)....

after being off the road for a long time, i got it up and running fine....ish.
but the carb - how the hell is that supposed to be set up?
~ pilot air screw - how many turns out?
~ tickover screw - how many turns out?
~ is there a knack to getting the fu*ker.. i mean little darling to start? :innocent:

Thanks a lot folks - i know, bad form to enter a new place and straight away start 'begging' / but i'm desperate here.
we got lotsa snow / my Guzzi (cali3) AND my 'uber reliable' (hah!:angry: ) BMW are both off the road and anyhow -i got bad med probs (long boring story) that would stop me picking one of the big Bikes off the road if i dropped it.
So,

I don't think they are in any real numbers in New Zealand.

All you can do make sure the plug is new, air filter is clean and the jets are right.
You can probably check the jets are right easier if you do all the simple maintenance first then take it for a run wide open throttle then check the spark plug for colour.
when the engine is warm the air screw will make a slight difference at idle you will feel it smooth out a little but not much, as soon at you have gone past quarter throttle its on the needle height and main jet anyway. Set the idle at what ever you like around 800 rpm ish

Anything like a dirty filter/plug makes a disproportional difference with an engine that's used almost at its limit.

I have to move my needle up or down a notch depending on the season.

actually, i cant complain - my local Bike shop is quite good and one of the guys used to race mopeds... :blink: so he knows what he's doing.

So now i'm riding a minature banshee with a caffeine overdose.:shit:
well - that's what it feels like anyhow. :laugh:
it's as rough as a badgers arse though. :facepalm:

The good;
starts reliably, rapid acceleration.
The bad;
lumpy ragged throttle response and then the effin throttle sticks open?! :shit:

arahh! - it'll do me.... for now. at least i'm ON a Bike. :yes:

Just stock bits mate...I work in a Suzuki dealship so the bits are cheap as.

long story - but it's a charity trip - i give the 'Bike away to a hospital in Gambia after riding it about 4000miles to get there. :eek:

still got problems with Bikes here. if i could suss what the problem is with the 'Magic it would ease my stress level if nothing else!
i've put a post on another thread too.
Sorry to take and not give to this forum - but i'm desperate here.

The bike simply wont go over 30mph/50kmh - runs fine otherwise. doubt its got a washer under the belt as it USED TO do 40mph/60kmh when last used regularly.
then it got left in the shed for a year. :facepalm: ( i know-shame on us!)

back in the old days (ie the '70s) it used to be a given that a two-stroke exhaust silencer would get clogged with oily carbon spooge and it was a part of a regular tune-up to clean the removable baffle, either with solvent (messy and boring) or an gas torch (much quicker, smokey, fun) - holding the baffle with vise grips, heat it with the torch until the carbon is glowing red, then turn off the gas, leaving the oxygen on. The carbon would burn off in a shower of sparks and smoke, leaving the holes in the baffle clear.

Maybe with todays cleaner burning oils this no longer applies. Could be worth a look though

sadly (?!) the exhaust on this thing is clear and free flowing.
Though as it has no removable baffle - the heat required to clear it was... 'intense' :shit:
mind you - it needs repainting after the blow torch job done on it! :devil2:

~ plug is good.
~ even let a 'proper' mechanic (ex moped racer) at it*.

*since then, it starts well, runs well - but tops out at exactly 50kmh and is still an alcoholic on fuel. :angry:

if you're ever offered a 'Yamaha majesty 400c.c.' pooper scooter as a temp loan bike... beware;
it's not awful / but the pillion seat is as wide as a sofa. if your pillion is 'vertically challenged', they wont be able to reach the footpegs and make comments about 'birthing chairs, stirrups' etc.... :blink:

You could try going to Ocho's in Ranelagh, ask for Kim or Zippy, tell them Sean sent you and see if they know anyone locally that can help. There are days when I miss Dublin.....
