I have 10 stubbies of weasel's piss beer taking up room in my fridge that I'm never going to drink.

If there's interest I could possibly be talked into having another ADV dvd/talk shit night early next week.

Some of us are secure enough that we don't require eurotrash penis substitutes.

Some of us are secure enough & can't afford eurotrash penis substitutes.

I agree totally.

Dino, we should do a night up this way in the same vein, but bagging DR's since no-one up this far has been silly enough to get a KLR.

See, they all come crawling out from under their rocks.

And Padmei's KLR wasn't enough to make him feel adequate, he had to buy a Euro as well.

actually its a bit of a stretch to call your beemer 'bavarians finest'

that said - unless I was doing two up or carrying shit loads of luggage - I can't see in what situation an airhead would be superior to a sensibly modified new style KLR

I have piss drinking sessions this weds and fri night for work and out of town Tuesday. Given that my family has just moved up I'm possibly tied here this week. But I'd be keen to host a KB ADV BBQ at my place here prior to Xmas or in the NY.

Perhaps given some proper guidance & riding tuition you too can aspire to own & ride a proper bike, & won't need to have that sort of envy.

They're pretty good, but like KLRs, they can be improved on.

Talk to me when your KLR is nearly 20 yrs old & has done over 200k kms....:innocent: Eddie's has done circa 120k kms. Not sure on Schmidtty, but given the owner, he's the exception to every rule....

Marks KLR has done what? He's already got a big bore & is talking about another? How's that oil consumption working out for you KLR riders right now?
(Marks KLR is a nice bike to ride BTW)

I won't swap my bike, & I'm hoping you are happy with your choice
(even if you are strangely misguided IMHO).

Started riding about 42 years ago so just about got the hang of it. That includes about 16 years of speedway solos.
Perfectly happy with the KLR, warts and all. My regular riding group has (for adv type rides) two KTMs, one BMW, two DRs (one soon to be replaced with another KTM) and one Honda. On group rides my KLR taken me has everywhere the other bikes have.

I've never encountered a group of KLR riders, either in life or on the 'net, who feel the need to bag other brands, but unfortunately the reverse is not true.

ADVrider, KLR650.net, etc, the KLR riders don't seem to be preoccupied with put downs. More about doohickeys, oil usage, best panniers, riding around the world, etc.

Maybe I'm not looking in the right places

Relax Pete, come around for a drink or a coffee and you can bag my KTM and BMW all you like.

I love KLR slag fests :woohoo:

No argument re airheads handling big miles better than just about any other bike on the planet - including KLR's. Yours certainly don't feel at all like a high mileage bike

I just like a bit more 'off road' in my bike than an airhead provides in near stock/mildly modified form - plus the seat to footpeg height is all fucked up

And yes I wouldn't be that excited by most stock Jap 650's - they all need uncorking and sensible modding. If I had to ride a stock bike I don't know what I'd be happy with. Even my WR needed uncorking to be fun

And Woody - I think the old style KLR's look cooler than the new style and are more capable off road but I'd rather do a long trip on a newer style one

That's part of the appeal
its a 'fook you I'll ride what i like' kind of bike
as a KLR rider you have nothing to prove - no expectations to meet
the antithesis of a cool bike like a 690 (I'm not taking the piss - I think 690's are very cool)

I don't think they are practical or sensible or easy to ride - but they give me a lump in me dacks....

Actually I think an Irishman had his pecker in the mix somewhere in the dim dark history of signaldom

pete376403

It's actually quite easy, because the bike has such a short wheelbase and the fork angle is so steep. About 60 HP helps too. Back tyre is a 3.50 x 19 trials universal type pattern, NZ tracks are hard clay cos they share with stockcars etc

Approach the turn, lean over and full throttle and it steps out as little or as much as you want.

Well thats how it was back then - I stopped riding about 1991. Was watching the world series on Sky last week - the new guys are light years better than I ever dreamed I could be.

Would love to have another go.

Thanks everyone for turning up, we had 12 people plus me all up tonight so a good turnout.

Beer was drunk, pizza was eaten and many lies told.

And some bastard(s) left more beer in my fridge, so while 8 of mine were drunk 4 new ones were left in the fridge and I still have 8 left. I never thought it would so hard to get rid of free beer.

I did a recount last night after cleaning up and found 10 of my beers had been drunk, but I found another 4 that had been left behind, so I'm only 2 beers down from when I started.
So my fridge is still half full of beers and I don't drink the stuff. :)

Anyway I was merely pointing out how BMW riders tend to be more law-abiding than most.
