We went to a staff xmas doo at the partner's boss's place yesterday to be greeted by the host as soon as we got out of our vehicle. I was quickly whisked into the toy shed to be shown his '08 Fatboy (anniversary edition whatever that means). I was handed the keys & told it was my job to take a few guests for a ride around the local roads.
First job was to find where to put the key - to be told "in your pocket will be fine".
Pootled off to the road for a familiarization with the beast before unleashing all that power a little later. The hill I found must have been steeper than it looks as I waited for all the grunt to kick in!
Found my way around the locality & gave it a decent handfull on the way back & tested the braking before his gateway. I was really pleased a handfull only gave me 130 clicks ( yes I checked whether it was mph ) otherwise I would have overshot the driveway by a considerable margin. I'm sure the Busa or ST would have stopped comfortably from twice that in the same distance!
Various "dollies" were taken for a pootle to see how nippie it was before returning it to it's home to see it still only had 1500km on the clock after 3 years ownership....

Those apply to motorcycles - not garage furniture

... it still only had 1500km on the clock after 3 years ownership....

I'd do that distance in less than three weeks...in the winter...possibly not on a Harley though...

Problem with buying a low kms bike like that is: it won't have been run in and probably never will be. Sounds like a new looking future oil burner.

I got my first harley recently. In the first month I did 3000ks, had it in pieces, modified it, and crashed it.

I do hope there wasn't a link between those last two :innocent:

Maybe the modification was to shorten the front end a tad :innocent:

So you exceeded the speed limit by 30kph on a vehicle with brakes that need servicing. Shouldn't be too hard - they are probably Brembos from memory. :-)

Heard the saying, about Old Bikers and Bold Bikers....I have been riding since 15, that's now 42 years with one off and that was on my ST1100 being an idiot down the Parapara's, came to the conclusion that no matter how good I thought I was there is always going to be the one time you F****k up since then I owned another ST, tried a Goldwing or two but too much plastic for my liking, then a couple of Valkyrie Tourers...best bike ever owned, then Honda said screw the six cylinders and tried to push the 1300 and 1800 models, didn't like em, looked to much like another brand from Japan, although still good bikes, just not me. Then I went on a trip to the States for 7 weeks with a bunch of good buggers who mostly rode Harleys,,,all trip I told them what a heap of junk they rode...all in good fun....came home sold the Valk's and have been happily riding Harleys ever since, current ride is a 2011 Road King and am very happy with the 1700 cc motor, ABS brakes, new frame that has got rid of the wallowing effect and ticks all my boxes. What I am saying is there is no such thing as the "BestBike", it's just what suits you best at the current point in time....no leaks on Harleys these days either:yes:

I wonder why sprotsbike riders feel obliged to 'bag' Harleys?
To confirm to themselves they bought the right kind of bike?
Insecurity?
Trolling?

Funny how few Harley riders (on KB anyway) feel obligated to 'bag' sprotsbikes.

You buy what YOU want to ride so why give a fat rats arse about what the 'other guys' ride???

I've been an admirer of Harleys since I was a kid and bought Easyrider magazines regularly so definitely not a hater of the style. I have riden with a lot of harley riders in small groups and yes there are a few with skill however there are a hell of a lot of wannabees and posers. My reservations are these types who think they can ride them like modern European, British and Japanese sports and sports / tourers.
Pro's: Styling, size, comraderie, Suitability for American roads etc.
Con's: Practicality, braking, handling potential, Accessory compulsion, cost. to name a few.
