hey guys,

just wanting to know if anyone can recommend any dealers anywhere in NZ that will do a good deal on givi?

I need to buy a rack to suit my bike and am keen on getting the e55 tech or maxia box. thats the biggest one they do, and also the most expensive. hence a reduction in price would make the purchase more realistic for me.

alternatively sell me one you have!

cheers for any help

Have you tried Cycletreads? They stock Givi.

yeah just tried them. they knocked about $55 off, but still about $700 for the box and rack. i suppose its just one of those items that you gotta fork out for...

An E46 might be a good fit for the bike, compared to the 55...

yeah mate, a 46l might not be so oversized. as you said, i will have to go and put the boxes next to the bike and check it out.

Those 46l boxes are pretty big. I had one and sold it.

Cool, did you have any trouble fitting everything in? i need to try and squeeze in a helmet, a jacket, low cut boots and the odd text book! this is while im at uni, maybe i'll have to hire a locker for the year and just go for the 46L box

I had it on my Hornet for touring, with throwover panniers. I kept light stuff in it (sleeping bag and stuff I didnt want to get wet). anything heavy in it and I could feel when riding the bike and didnt like it. Never used it commuting.

Givi is expensive, but Givi is good quality...

I'd take an E52 over an E55. The E55 looks better, but the hinge mechanism is crap. It does hold the box open, but prone to wear, both sides of mine are broken. E52, doesn't stay open (so like normal boxes) but has a stronger locking mechanism with no play in it. Box also feels more sturdy.

I've used 4 different cases in the range over the years, currently have an E55 on the back of the Hornet, and its almost permanently on. Bike handles weird without it

yeah those hinges were one of the first things i wondered about when i looked at the e55. i saw somewhere on the net, probably the givi site, that spares are available for the box including those hinges. i also noticed that the locking mech was a bit fiddly. the older style (monolock?) which i currently have in a smaller size has quite a good locking mech, however its only rated at 5kg vs 10kg for the e55 etc...

its probably gonna come down mostly to what looks reasonable in terms of size on the bike, and the e52 is marginally wider than the e55 believe it or not.

Sure, the box rating may differ... but I've run a few boxes over their weight limits.

The box isn't the problem... you're most likely to destroy your subframe first...

I may or may not have first hand knowledge of this

FYI, my E55 gets used daily, and filled right up regularly. No issues with any part of it.

and the e52 is marginally wider than the e55 believe it or not.

The 55 is a better shape though, it has a little more height instead of the width (marginal) but means it fix two full face helmets easier with extra's...

yeah i am pretty keen on the e55-tech, but just want to see how it will look on the bike, i've seen photos of them with the e46 which looked ok, so hopefully the 55 is ok too
