....from Huntly.

The computer is on the floor and the monitor on a coffee table, cables all over the floor...but we have Jetstream.Boxes, boxes, boxes and junk everywhere, the stove has not been wired and I have lived on takeways, baked beans and Maggi soup for weeks, the boys eat on the floor in the kitchen sitting on cushions. We have net curtains but no drapes, getting dressed in the dark, the bathroom has no door.I have a 90km commute and tomorrow will take a different car for the 3rd time this week.

I'm feeling good - 5hrs sleep down here is worth 10 in Auckland, the commute is just driving, not sitting in stationary traffic going nowhere. The Whanau has come - my daughter lives across the park,I can see her light is still on from here,so they are still up,my other daughter has just come in...she seems to be living in 2 places, but she has a home here with us if she needs to.I have a caravan on the back yard for her....and a bed in the house.

Finaly - out of Auckland,a town I have never wanted to live in.....so many people crammed into one place - an no one in a hurry! They dither and hesitate,I mean,if you have this many people in one place how about a bit of hussle and bussle eh? Ever tried to speed on the motorway? 80kph if you are lucky,100kph is a dream.Gotta get the junk out of the shed so I can set up my workshop.

Are you moving your employment to Huntly as well, Motu, or going to commute?

ahh huntly. lived and worked there for a couple of years - first posting. not a bad community, has some deprivation/decile issues, but the soul of the community is good. have you gone all flash and bought on the eastside?

and the $10 special at the takeaways on the main street (no eftpos) is the biggest feed you'll have this week...

Huntly. I have fond memories of this place in which I spent many happy and productive hours in a past life. Enjoy your new abode, Motu. I hope you like rugby league...

Congratulations on getting out of Dorkland

I hate this place more each year that goes by. It was a good city when I was a lad, but it's gotten worse and worse. We now have all the shit and problems of big cities with none of the advantages.

And it's going to get a lot worse over the next few years with all this intensification and shoddy apartment buildings everywhere.

Roll on the day I can get out (not too long now, counting the months)

Well what a surprise! And it's all thanx to "the thing wrong with NZ is the population is too small - let's allow/encourage more people to come here".
Hello - the good things about NZ were due to the small population, and you don't get a bigger population without the attendant problems: higher crime, disappearance of the community spirit, more traffic, overloaded infrastructure, blah blah blah.

I moved here for work, but I don't intend to stay.

Oh yeah - and congratulations on the move, Motu. I hope you are happy in your new home. :niceone:

Living in a small community has it's good and bad points, same as living in the city....you just have to weigh up the pros and cons for your situation at the time.I lived for over 30yrs in Auckland,10 yrs on Waiheke Island and have done 9 yrs back in Auckland....time to get out again. But as Ixion said,Auckland was a different place when I was younger - the community I was born into,Bucklands/Eastern Beach was small and isolated and now is almost inner City.Huntly is not exactly my ideal choice,I was almost forced into it...but it's close enough for the transition I need, and I want Auckland to be accessable at any time.Rent and mortgage free in a modest home with fresh paint and new carpet....I feel like a Labour voter.....

I'm on the West side Marty, but the northern end, seems to be a well kept quiet area - although the cops were next door at the house with 10 cars on the lawn last week.....they're ok,and I'm partial to keeping a fresh supply of parts on hand myself.SH22 at my back door - a sunday afternoon spin around the block will be a ride most riders in the world would dream about....

Pick up and storage (with test ride) for the needy if required.

Why anyone would want to live in AKL is totally beyond me. I don't even want to visit the place... :weird:
