They aren't trying to sell them to us, they're trying to sell them to Americans.

In the Land of Questionable Taste, it'll be a hit.

or not

Saw one in the flesh at the Melbourne M/C Expo. It is different. Made one realise just how good looking the 1198 really is.

Would you think differently if it had a Honda, Suzuki, Kawasaki etc badge on it.

I welcome it to the cruiser world and hope it inspires a new category of power cruisers that also corner well.

How is it really that different to the VMAX or MT01. It's not a Cruiser as such, but somewhere between that a tourer with some go.

From t he USA PR blurb:

Styled to look like a track sprinter about to explode from the starting blocks, the Diavel tips the scales at just 463 pounds. There is, however, no shortage of power. Ducati claims a whopping 162 hp and 94 ft.-lb. of torque—delivered to the ground through a 240mm-wide rear tire. Standard features include anti-lock brakes, Ducati Traction Control and Ducati Riding Modes.

162 hp, 210kgs. Bugger I'll have cruisers wizzing past me

There is also a lighter 'carbon' edition.

US$17,000 - $20,000 so that's about a million NZ.

I like it.

Yep I would be keen for a test ride. If anything the 1098 series of motors are awsome:yes:

I wonder what would happen if they put that motor into a sport orientated chassis ?

Oh no, wait..

160 hp and its cheaper than a V rod

however it may miss the market completely, people who buy ducatis don't buy cruisers & peopel who buy cruisers don't buy ducatis

so exactly who is going to buy this?

harley had this problem with the v rod, journalists loved it but they don't buy bikes they just test ride them

I'd like a Street Rod. Awesome "standard" motorcycle unfairly tarnished with a "cruiser' label and a Harley price tag. It's more GSX1400 than Fat Bob.

First reviews coming in and it looks like a major kick up the arse for the usual cruiser suspects. Go Ducati.

Good to see Ducati branching out and being a bit more daring looks like a great bike

Ducati made a smart move I think. They have a lot of brand loyalty like HD and realise that their customer base is aging as are motorcyclists in general statistically. When your wrists and reflexs get too slow and too sore for the latest rocketship this could be a good alternative. It looks Ducati, going by the engine it will sound Ducati and there will be a comfort factor but still plenty of power and the bike still sits within the Ducati brand.
Moto Guzzi did it in 2006 with the Griso (which they tagged a power cruiser) and that was a success for them, I think Ducati have taken into consideration the market and produced something that their customers can relate to, not just in the USA either.
Personally I like it and I can't wait for it to fall in the hands of customisers to see the results in the next few years...
