New brown lines in roadworked areas?

I have no idea if this has started happening through the rest of the country. But I know if I ride from Clevedon to Beachlands I come across these things a few times.

Wherever they have been doing roadworks their seems to be almost sandy looking snake lines in the area. Like they've gone with a large paintbrush with whatever this stuff is made from. No roadworks signs up anymore so they're obviously finished but because they snake when you ride on them the wheels get a bit titchy. Especially in corners, and they've also put them in accident black spot corners?!

Has anyone else come across these at all? Wondering if it's a new cheap way for them to finish roadworking quickly. Like a cheap filler :facepalm:

Obviously they aren't very common at the moment. I hope they don't become more common. I mean it's not terrible to ride on, but not a nice feeling.

The brown is from the grit/sand they mix in to help give more grip.
i.e the gritted tar snakes give a little more traction than straight tar snakes.

Ahh I see, well when I drive over them in the car it definitely feels fine. Feels like your in a speed wobble on a bike though. Guess if that's what they are going to start doing then will just have to deal with it and adjust. Yay...

They're known as tar snakes, try and avoid riding over them where you can, not easy out that way I know as they're all over the lane in places. Where you can't avoid them keep your grip loose on the bars and avoid making sudden changes in direction.

Rode out to Kawakawa Bay on Mon and that road is getting blooody bumpy. Have to stay loose all right. Left the seat a couple of times, wasnt even going that fast.

Have them up my way in Tauranga as well.

one part of the road I have to cover on my daily comute is two otherwise really nice corners that are absolutly covered in them, there's nowhere you can avoid them.

You just kinda learn to expect it, ease off, no sudden move - fucked if something is around that corner as it carries on for a bit.

Nah they're actually different material, they ARE tar snakes but are using a different composite or something - I noticed this on Monday when riding out those ways. They're a lighter hue of brown. But I actually thought they were quite grippy and was thankful they were using that rather than the old tar snake slippery crap they've been using.

I was riding with confidence on them on the premise that they had some grip to them, didn't seem uncomfortable at all. But then again, I'm not hooning around at 180kmph+

Ditto, or go and see Lindsay at Bayride and talk to him. Down there you guys have a really cool relationship with TPTB and can probably get it addressed pronto if there is an issue :yes:

I rode over the ones just this side of my Righ eye on Monday afternoon.
I was suspicious of them and after riding over them I'm extremely glad I'd been so suspicious.
The heat of the day had made them soft as and while I did not lose the front in a slide out,(as might have happened on an ordinary Tar Snake) They most definitely made the bike behave in a completely random manner which I had to quickly correct before I got into even bigger difficulties.
Speed was actually on the button at 50 KPH's but in the dip just out of Maraeti the road is practically covered (criss crossed even) in them.
Did not make me a happy motorcyclist.
I've also lately ridden over completely sealed corners that used to be hell on 2 wheels and covered in snakes, this is my Preferred fix for tar snakes.Still in the manukau area too.

Had no idea about this at all, will have to do this cheers! I always have to warn my mates about it cause you don't see em til your already in the corner (dips down). lucky no incident yet, but there are lotsa bikes that travel that road daily

Leaving the seat not supposed to be common?! Do every time leaving home, the bloody way they do those bridges and the roads coming up to them gives you a great little bit of air... :shutup:

yea but I ride an ocean liner not a sporty bike. Takes a bloody big bump to get off the seat and god help ya if the bike leaves the ground.

I don't think it would take too much to get me and my bike off the ground. Think its about 230kg altogether when I'm on it. :shit: Teeny little thing it is :innocent:

Hey Kermit 250. Where are you talking about. There's a few tar snakes on Ngatai Rd on the city side of the Bureta shops, and the hill the other side of the shops has a few on it as well. I come through there every day, and I now have my lines predetermined to avaiod them, as well as the tram tracks along where Superior Automotive is.
