Nearly had a head-on today

Coming home from Whananaki today, cause the camping was rained out, I was driving a fully laden Holden wagon with an equally full trailer in tow, wife and two kids, the typical picture of kiwis at christmas, ya know.
So, coming up to a left then a right hand bend, in the distance I can see a single light of an oncoming motorbike, he has just exited the (my) left hand bend as I arrive, and I remark to the wife how slow and tentative he is riding, must be the crap on the road after some flooding. His bike was a blue enduro style (think africa twin/BMW) unsure of make, good bit of touring kit onboard. So now with him safely heading in the other direction I look up to see his fucking mate about two feet into my side of the road and I was still going about 50ish, 2nd bike panics and swerves to his right, so now he's in the middle of my lane. I brake hard and swerve left as I can see his lane is clear, we miss by what feels like inches, I pull over about 40-50 meters further down the road to console my wife, who is now crying from the shock, I explain that the guy must be a tourist and had temporally lost his bearings/was to busy looking elsewhere. It's all o.k. I say to her, this will get him back on track (the near miss that is)
Meanwhile, another car has just passed us so we pull out on our way. about 250 meters ahead the road is flooded and the car in front stops, I jump out ,as I've already got the boardies on from earlier, and offer to wade through to check the depth, I do that , then as I'm heading back to the car I ask if she saw the two motorbikes earlier (if she only saw one I was going to have to go back)
She says that the second bike was bang in the middle of her lane and she had to swerve to avoid him.

If by any chance anyone reading this see's these two bikes (in northland)


Give the cunt riding the second bike a slap, he made my pulse to bad things.

If anyone reading this is from overseas and is planning on coming over, please do, but we drive on the left here.

I know, that was going through my mind afterwards, followed closely by the usual hysteria on the net, where more often than not the car driver is automatically blamed, with calls being made for them to be hung up by body parts until they to are dead, this time the cage (me) was actually in the right.
It is my wife's birthday today and when my daughter asked what happened and why is mummy crying I said that I gave mummy's present to another person, she asked what it was and I said "another birthday"
I don't think she understood, but I hope the "other person" does.

If the biker is on the wrong side of the road, there is no way you can blame the car! People behaving like idiots have no idea how their actions affect others. Had you killed him/her you would have had to live with that for the rest of your life. Even though it wouldn't have been your fault, you would still suffer from it.

Idiocy is not just restricted to tourists. I very nearly took out a young fella on a bike a few years ago, I have no idea how I missed him. I was following him, there was a road up ahead of us on the left, and many driveways (wide commercial type ones) on our right. It was in a 50k area, we were doing about 40. He indicated to turn right, and moved close to the centre line slowing down. I moved to the left. He was slowed to almost stopped as I was about up to him on the road, all of a sudden he grabs a handful of throttle and turns LEFT into the road on our left!. It is the closest I have ever come to taking out a rider.

It may simply be that the second person is new to riding and can't take corners yet. Either way very scary for you.

Hope the second rider learns while they still can to ride to their ability and slow down. I'm sure his mate on the first bike would wait for him.

Coming home to Kerikeri from Whangarei today and about 3 k's from the SH10 turn off at Pakaraka, two bikes heading south (in their lane) the second bike today I recognized as the first bike from yesterday - I think they must have gone up to the cape/90 mile this morning and were returning to their base, 98% sure it was them and they seemed to be moving well given the crappy conditions.
Rider two must have survived yesterday's brain fart as he was leading today
pissing rain but I still wished it was me going for a spin today

Truck pulls into centre of road to turn to road on right thinks me.
I go left to go up the inside and he turns left...
No blinkers at all and I collected the rear of the deck with the VT250 screen/mirror.

He didn't even know he'd been hit.

Apart from the bike paint on the deck.

His response to me saying he didn't use his blinker and I hit him?

"No you didn't" and then after showing him the paint, "you were going too fast".
