I'm off work until the 17th, so wouldn't need much arm twisting to tag along.

Anything happening 7,8,9th?
Would love a Pureroa Forest, 42nd trip.
Will be packing tent for the cheapest option possible for accom.
I was thinking friday down to Pureroa and stay the night at the Doc camp site (http://www.doc.govt.nz/parks-and-recreation/places-to-stay/conservation-campsites-by-region/waikato/waitomo-pureora/kakaho/)
I should begin on the greasing of palms to get let out for the weekend.

I am not working at the moment, so anytime would suit me.
Maybe we should just meet up at the Camp ground on early saturday avo, have a bit of a look-see around Pureroa stay the night at Kakaho campsite have some fun on the way out to the 42nd.
But looking at the weather it looks like it might be a bit average. I am not particularly interested in doing the camping in the rain thing.
I am also thinking of heading up to Uretiti Beach for a overnighter, which with the nicer weather north may be more likely to happen.

Kakaho is about here (http://maps.google.com/maps?t=k&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=3+Coronation+St,+Belmont+0622,+Auckland,+New +Zealand&ll=-38.57036,175.71824&spn=0.003729,0.008025&z=18)
And yes it would be tent required camping, that is assuming there is room, as it is a first come first served camp site (I think).
Will have to play it by ear at my end, I assume you are traveling with someone else, so if I don't make it I am not bailing to leave you solo?

Yep definitely will be in touch if I don't make it.
But weather looks tolerable at this stage so chances pretty good.
So how does this look for a plan.
Meet at Kakaho Doc campsite (http://www.doc.govt.nz/parks-and-recreation/places-to-stay/conservation-campsites-by-region/waikato/waitomo-pureora/kakaho/) at 1pm on Saturday 8th Jan 2011.
Google maps link to approx site location (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=3+Coronation+Street,+Belmont,+AUckland&daddr=-38.24001,175.5553+to:Kakaho+Rd+to:Waipapa+Rd&hl=en&geocode=FYZmzv0dNf1qCimRtbYqmzcNbTFmF7_i8tXZig%3BF faAuP0d5MJ2Cim_Z8COQYtsbTGxj5sGYe8AEw%3BFYFcs_0d92 R5Cg%3BFbaCtv0dmu55Cg&mra=mi&mrcr=1&mrsp=3&sz=11&via=1&sll=-38.529367,175.811462&sspn=0.500628,1.027222&ie=UTF8&ll=-38.570524,175.718272&spn=0.003909,0.008025&t=k&z=18) It is pretty much on Kakaho road.
Plan is to have a look around the forest for the afternoon/evening camp at Kakaho doc campsite (first come first served for space, talked to Doc sites have been busy but not full to capacity and there are 2 other campsites in region we could use as backup.) or head home for locals.
Sunday head out of the forest head towards National Park, through the 42nd Traverse and maybe Fishers.
Depending on weather/how I feel I may go stay another night in Kakaho campsite or maybe over to something in the Kaimanawa Forest Park or back home to AK.
Nic, no problem to join us.

Plenty of room there at present. I came through there the other day, From Pureora Forest end....There are some good ruts through there and some very fast roads...:)

One thing to note is if you are staying at Kakaho with us you will need to bring food, they have BBQ facilities so we can at least cook some stuff.
You don't want to be like me on the Point Pouto ride who thought "riders must be self sufficient" mean there would be room service/fast food deliveries.
Nearest fuel/food (servo food) is here (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Whakamaru+Rd&daddr=Kakaho+Rd&hl=en&geocode=FfbEtf0dcnJ6Cg%3BFVJcs_0d0mN5Cg&mra=pr&sll=-38.421806,175.797043&sspn=0.015668,0.032101&ie=UTF8&ll=-38.491488,175.823822&spn=0.250446,0.513611&t=k&z=12)

If you enter from Kokaho Rd end, it leads into Link Road. If you follow Link road until you see a sign on the right YMCA camp, take that, this is the Access Rd, it leads to the centre of North Island marker...
If you are going from Link Rd end, it is signposted on the left, it is Access Rd and looks a dead end but it does go through according to topo maps and comes out near the end of Link Rd/Kokaho Rd....
I am trying to find my .gpx for you now...But, they are in my signature link..

Make sure you give Link Rd a hiding and the small paper road near Wharepapa Rd and the other one, they are fast and wide...:)

Yeah, that's a bit sucky nic. Take care.
I might catch up with you guys along the way for a bit. I'm heading that way a bit later today.
I did the 42nd fully loaded on 990 on evening 01/01/11. 2/3 worn scorp on rear & fresh conti on front. It was a bit of a handful but do-able. Sad to say but I came to a stop on the loose rock covered bedrock based hill on the mountain side of the main river crossing. There's a little side track that I got around it with. Not much fun backing the loaded bike back down! Watch out for mountain bikes if going towards the mountains - that's the uphill direction (& after the rain the clay surfaces nearer the mountain end).
Have fun.

Was planning on a casual start on sunday with not much fixed plan for 42nd, but if you want to meet us there we can set a time to meet.
Will be coming down on SH47, so we could meet at Kapoors road at a specified time.
What time would suit everyone?

I doubt there is cell range in Pueroa forest so maybe touch base earlier in the day if you are coming. Cheers.

Bloody great weekends riding, managed 998km.
Saturday morning left Auckland at about 8am, rode down to Cambridge by mainish roads, then down the sides of Lake Karapiro/Arapuni and into Pureora Forest.
Met up with Night Falcon and Jimmy.
http://lh5.ggpht.com/_Gr4w3OEMfJs/TSl_lmL9W2I/AAAAAAAAJh4/auxrhHNAQOc/s800/IMG_0428.JPG
We then discovered the center of the north island.
http://lh3.ggpht.com/_Gr4w3OEMfJs/TSl_iEH19pI/AAAAAAAAJhw/vz8Keq-qkho/s800/IMG_0423.JPG
We then found a few tight bush tracks to enjoy, being 2x 690, one with full luggage on and a 950, it might not have been an ideal track.

http://lh4.ggpht.com/_Gr4w3OEMfJs/TSl_oqUczPI/AAAAAAAAJiE/5euWAnTHRfo/s800/IMG_0453.JPG
I then camped at Kakaho Doc campsite, which was bloody lovely. A freezing cold bath in the river and some good freeze dried dinner cooked on a bbq.

Sunday morning Met up with Night Falcon and Jimmy at Turangi again and we attacked the 42nd Traverse. 1st time for them through the 42nd, they had seen photos of the KCAR river crossing and were expecting similar, but the water levels were very low.

Once we had that done, onwards to the fishers. Being summer it was dry and easy.
http://lh4.ggpht.com/_Gr4w3OEMfJs/TSl_6zKTDeI/AAAAAAAAJjE/m49DLKqV4VQ/s800/IMG_0626.JPG
I then rode home to finish off almost 600km day.

We made it back also! Thanks Chris for bein our tour guide we had a fantastic time.
We left Hastings on Friday morning and headed north to Turangi via the Napier Taupo. We had previously ear marked some tracks for exploring up on the platau and had a blast gettin lost and riding fire breaks...the only casulty was my top box which "exploded" off the rear after a series of unexpected whoops following a fast leep over a grassy rise....thanks Jimmy for noticing it was missing:blink:
We then went on to Taupo and the Wharehouse for a cheap duffel bag and a feed.
Caught up with Chris the next morning at Pauroa forrest camp; man what a blast! finding tracks riding gravel...that boy can ride a 690! Only one minor casulty this time after a wee off on the 690 we had to stop for repairs to indicator and nuts after tank slapper...and I might say neither Jimmy or Chris was there for me to rub them better...although Jimmy did offer to hit them better with a stick . after straighting a bent break peddal we headed our seperate ways for the night...sorry Chris the offer of a warm bed and shower took the camping spirit right out of me :innocent:
Next day met up again for fuel and burger king and headed for the high light of the trip...the 42nd! Mate!!! awsome riding...the track was in pretty good nick with low rivers...so maybe not as challenging as some may have found it but it was a blast all the same! Keeping up with Chris became futile as he effortlessly steered the 690 round the trails but it was excellent fun trying.
After the 42nd we headed off to Fishers track which turned out to be a one way ride as by the time we had trudged our way through the last part of the track to reach the Hunting lodge we were like baked spuds. Easier/cooler gravel roads infront of us seemed the way to go rather than go back over fisher oven!
We parted company with Chris after some more gravel (thanks again Chris you are da man!)and Jimmy and I headed off to Hastings via the Gentle Annie where we experienced the only rain on the trip...but luckily not too bad. A round trip of 853klm of what can only be described as first class motorcyling! Have heaps of video footage so will try to get some clips posted once I have trolled through it.
