A bike for me?

Hi all,

I have been riding on and off now for a few years and have recently got my full licence. I had a 09 Ninja 250 for a while before selling, and after a year and a half have hopped onto an 05 ZX6RR.

I really enjoy riding the 600, but I have come to the realisation that me + that bike= too fast, and if I get in trouble with the law I am putting my career on the line. I also find it a little tall in the seating and when trying to lower it with my links the shock hit the swingarm so that was a no go. Sports bikes are what I like, and now I am struggling to think of a bike that may be better suited to my needs, but still provide a few thrills.

I have begun looking at other bikes, and have been suggessted an ER6F/N however these bikes do not have the look that I like. I have been looking at Kawasaki Z750's for the fact they are naked and aggressive looking, and the wind resistance might encourage less throttle (have also looked at the monsters and fazers, but they are not what I am after either). I have also been looking at the Harley 883's as I have seen one blacked out that looked full of attitude and I have no issues riding a nice sportster.

Just wondering if any ladies out there have any ideas for a bike that looks a little bit edgy with some attitude that could be lowered if needed. I am about 5,9 and 60kg :)

I'm pretty sure there is an updated Z750 come out soon but don't quote me on it, if you liked your 600 i'm not sure you'd like a 883, poles apart! I think Z750 would be a good place to start looking, you say the Yamaha FZ8 and the Kawasaki ER Series don't do it for you, what about the Triumph Street Triple? They do absolutely nothing for me but they might be right up your alley perhaps, just a slight word of warning though Triumph parts are of another world when it comes to cost!

Yes the 883 and 600 are poles apart, but if it keeps me a bit slower then I am ok with that. I have ridden two bikes before with similar positions and one hurt my back and the other didn't, so will need to find an Iron to take for a spin for an hour or so to see if it is me. I like the benefit of the very slow seat height.

I have looked into the new Z's, but they are a bit out of my price bracket at present, though they are very nice looking bikes. Are Z's easily lowered? They are only an inch or so shorter than the 600.

I have briefly looked at the street triple, and do like them. I will look into them a bit more. Thanks for pointing out the difference in pricing parts, I didn't really consider that aspect.

I am fortunate enough to have a bike mechanic as a other half, and he has knows a few people so the maintenance etc side of things is usually covered by him haha.

Right. That's a prety wide spread of weponry there Ma'am, good to see you haven't narrowed your options without actually test firing a few. And while it's your arse it's got to fit a speed/street tripple is a good suggestion. Based on the edgy styling thing maybe also try slinging a leg over one of the Buells.

I am 5'1 and have a Gladius she is a great bike to ride I have had it lowered with no probs but you may not have to. Being 650 cc I do have speed issues :yes: lol no tickets yet! It looks great either with standard handle bars or a more sporty option for only around $45. At the mo Suzuki doing a tour with a series of bikes to test ride :yes::yes:

Kanny has enjoyed her GSF600S Bandit.
Quite upright riding position, but the sport fairing allows you tuck in and have a squirt occasionally.
Only thing that lets some Bandits down is the suspension.
We fitted an Ohlins shock, and I fiddled with the front end via springs/spacers etc.

I'm not sure about lowering them, try googling it or asking your local dealer if they're any good they will be able to come up with some options if they are selling you the bike.

Another you might be able to look at would be the KTM SuperDuke, it's a 1000cc bike but it's not not silly powerful like your average Japanese Superbike, infact it'd be lucky to have any more power than your 600. The reason I suggest this they are a heap of fun to ride even at slow speeds meaning you'd not have to twist your wrist to get your enjoyment. Don't ask me what these are like for realiability as I just don't know but second hand one might within your budget maybe...

Your fulla might have the heads up on KTM SuperDuke realiability maybe and parts prices I don't know, I just know I rode one and loved it but alas i'm a big bloke and looked absolutely daft on it.
There are lots of choices out there, don't write of the middle weight Japanese bikes, have a ride all that you can before deciding to go plowing with a tractor (Harley D), sorry, couldn't help myself.

Maybe worth going for a putt on a Monster? Some people ride a v-twin and never want to get off, maybe you too? They come in everything from 400cc+, so something for everyone. Maybe a 900 Superlight? Nice look, 2 valve motor.

5'9" and you need to lower bikes?? Are you all body and no legs or something?
I'm 5'4" and can manhandle any of the older generation 600's with just the balls of both feet down. Hell, even the 2010 CBR1000 was a perfectly comfy fit :love:

You've had a parallel twin and now an IL4, give the V-twins and Triples a go too. Recommendations aside, anything over a 50cc scooter can get you in trouble if you aren't capable of telling your right hand to behave itself.

LMT- I can touch the ground fine with both balls of my feet, it is more of a confidence thing I think and being confident with my ride is important- I haven't been on a bike consistanly for nearly two years and this one is lots taller than what I am used to. There is no way I will be the dork in the carpark thats under her bike cause she lost her footing :facepalm: Maybe after getting my groove back on another bike I get the 600 out for more than just track days.

I have been on a Monster before which was a fine specimen, lots of CF. My mechanic with benefits nearly threw me off the back doing wheelstands tho! I will take your advise and go for a spin on one.

So many options! Test rides here I come!

Do try the GSX650F too! Brilliant bike!

I know you seem keen on newer bikes but since you have a mechanic with benefits, what about a VFR400? There are still tidy examples around, more power than a 250 but less than a 600 and more usable power at that too. And when you want a bigger road bike again you can turn the VFR into an awesome track bike.
