A push bike got pinched there on 18/12 - I dunno if it turned up later in the day.

It sucks because we all leave so much $$ worth of shit lying about in our pits and its difficult to keep an eye on it all day.

After your second excursion they were probably the only things worth pinching out of your pit Craig! ( Sorry that was a bit wicked )
I of course have an Ohlins watch but its safely domiciled at home, Pussy has one and also a vintage MX customer. The watch itself is big diameter and the face bright yellow and highly visible. Quite distinctive if everyone can keep an eye out for the offending lowlife.

Apparently Manfield has alot of trouble with the local kids walking around the pits waiting for garages to be empty so they can grab what they like while there's no-one around.
Pretty sad state of affairs that you cant enjoy your days racing without having something of value taken away from you.
In future you need to put everything under lock, that way you are sure to still have it once you come back in from the track.
I had my bike key stolen from the Scrutineering shed at round 6.
Piss me off Big Time and ended my day on a sour note.

It's not just Manfield.

Last time I was at a Hampton Downs ride day a group of people that clearly didn't belong turned up while the riders briefing was taking place and poked their noses around the pits.
The briefing is on pitlane while all the cars / vans / bikes are parked down on the skidpan.
As soon as people started heading back this group got in their car and left.

Don't know if anything got taken but it's a good reminder - Always lock your stuff away.

wouldent it would be worth getting security at the gates it might cost a extra $5 each but worth it in the long run

davebullet

This really pisses me off. I quite like how officials and riders let us into the pits for a close up look and to ask some dumb questions. It's shit like that, that will eventually force security or barring public access to the pits completely.

It wouldn't make any difference...the stuff is being stolen from unattended pit sheds, for the most part. Security at the gate isn't going to stop that

This shit's getting out of hand. We need to do a sting. We need to beat the living crap out of them and send out a message to other toerags tempted to take our $hit.

yeah me and chris approached them. they had brought the kids to teach them how to steal shit - but they told us they had brought the kids down to see whats happening at the track. yeah right.

Thats the problem with sharing a pit garage with other riders to whom you compete against, you are all out of the garage at the same time because you are on the track Racing so would it help in future to share a garage with someone who Races in a different class so that you can look after each others gear while out enjoying what it is your there for.
Im not sure whether this is a solution to the problem but hopefully it may help to keep what is yours from taking a walk to be never seen again.

Yep, that's what I do, its not often the pit is left totally unattended, not had anything taken yet.

It's a real worry still though you can have 10's of thousands of $ worth of gear left out for some scum bag to help themselves to.

Best approach is if you see someone you don't recognise getting to involved in someone's pit ask them what there up to. If there genuine they wont mind the check, if there up to no good they will be aware they have been spotted.

Theft is one of those crimes that really pisses me off, fukin low life shit stains too full of shit for brains to be any use to anyone. Catch um and cut their fukin hands off.

Happens at speedway as well, just small stuff at times, well when I crewed, the odd screwdriver, maybe crescent, etc. We never caught them but the lowlife scum used a crescent with said owners name on it(his workshop tools from his own business)to do a burglary, cops found the tool at scene, and followed up,luckilly we were able to say we were at Stratford the night concerned racing.

Did the cops get the crescent theif/burglar?

Might be time to set up a Honey trap in the pits and catch the fuckers

Its difficult though cause we like to see each other's races as well when we're able.

maybe racers need to make two exisiting members security so they can swap who gets to watch the race and who gets to watch the gear?

We used to leave a $20 note on the table in the middle of our pit area so they might just grab that and fuck off instead of something really expensive or really useful.

Now we just do the share a pitshed and never leave it unattended thing, lots of eyes help keep em out

Increase gate fees to cover security. Problem is it would put the general public off who don't care, therefore reduction in gate take.

A honey pot to catch and public humiliation might be good. Face on the big screen plus name and shame / details read out over the P.A.

Only seems like a good idea. Bullshit laws say that until convicted, a crim is only 'alleged' to have done whatever. Naming/shaming prior to that is grounds for a defamation case.

Better to set up the sting, then take the little cunt/s behind the bikesheds and deal to them privately.

Wondering if us employing a 'store-detective' type person to walk around all day keeping an eye on people might work. True it might add to our costs collectively, but happy to listen to other ideas to catch the little bar stewards red handed.

Sad to think that we as honest motorcyclists, who leave our gear unattended whilst on the track, now have the need to lock everything away for the "just in case" it gets pinched moment.

Maybe we should all keep a better eye on the pits closest to ours when out they're out riding the track - esp if there are some undesireables lurking around.

Still, shame it needs to come to it.

Hope some of you have managed to get your gear back.
