Hi There
I placed this in here hoping that some track guys could explain some insurance options to me.
I'm about to take me bike off the road ans use it on the track, so i't wont be used on the road any time soon and i'm wondering what kind of insurance i can get out there, i guess it will just be against theft?
Cheers.

I think you would most likely be pushing shit uphill to get full cover insurance on a race bike. I may be wrong, I'm sure some of the racing guys will advise what they've found. I'm not aware of any racing guys who have their bikes insured.
It's hard enough to get insurance on the road from some companies.
IMHO the best insurance is probably replica fairings, a second hand gas tank, crash bungs, and a bit of $$$ put aside!
You will most likely be able to get fire and theft insurance, but even some companies don't like doing that for bikes.

Yeah - a few companies will insure the bike itself - however specifically exclude cover whilst the bike is racing - Tasman Insurance is one I know well who insure competition vehicles.
The irony is the amount of race cars/bikes etc that insurance companies sponsor around the world? Seems our premiums do go towards repairing race cars - just the ones that they choose to throw money at and not our own.

full cover... hmm i only want protection against theft, what difference would it make if its road or race bike.
i just dont wnt some peice of shit stealing it and i'm left with nothing. you understand... i'll call around and say i have a bike in the shed that never gets rode on the road, i purely want protection against theft... i'll see what they say.

Dunno if you've already taken the insurance or not, but it may well be worth trying Star Underwriting Agents Ltd, based in Auckland I know they are by far one of the cheapest Insurance companies and specialise in Motorbike insurance. They will cover a learner licenced rider with a GN250 for $300-$350 a year and that's FULL/comprehensive insurance!

My race bikes are covered for theft and fire but only at my house.

I've never insured any of my racebikes for anything 'cause they charge so bloody much for a pretty unlikely event. The result now is if my race bike gets burnt or stolen; I've saved enough by not paying insurance premiums over the last 15 years to buy it again; more or less. So the theory goes.

from memory when i signed up for protecta insurance they did give me an option to tell them that the bike would be used on the track. dont know if it would give you crash cover but, if your keen maybe an idea to contact them.
Of course, it could always fall off the trailer, er umm
