Thank you...
And you know... I've noticed that since I've taken the L plate off (Yesterday morning) that drivers in general treat you different... better slightly...
People are just mean to Learners... And going 100kph on the motorway is SOOO much better then going 70kph.
My 11 minute ride to work is now more like 8-9 minutes...

Yeah, I noticed that when teaching one of my boys to drive. People were impatient and irrational as soon as they saw the big yellow "L". In fact, once I left the plate on, and drove to the mall. Despite going at a (ahem...) ticketable speed above the speed limit, people were still trying to pass me! It was almost like they expected me to conk out in front of them, crash'n'burn, or summat.
Feckin eejits....

To be truthfull I have a tendancy to treat cage learners like that, like the minute I see one I think to myself - "uh oh, hazard ahead".......
So I suppose it is a unfortunate ingrained thing with NZ drivers?
I like what John Wright said about NZ road users
"we are a bunch of individualists"

I've just got to wait for the CBRs clutch part to arrive, get the fairing and bleed the brakes, then I can get my warrant and hopefully my restricted soon after :2thumbsup
Then race in Round 4, and crash it again :-p
Well done placidfemme :niceone:

Of course there are still people who think that they need to go faster than whatever speed your going regardless of whether you have an L-plate on the back or not to watch out for.

16th June 2005, 09:22
Thank you everyone :) Yeah we're both happy as!!
I've only had the L plate off for about 24 hours, and I think this is the first 24 hours that I've been riding and some idiot on the motorway hasn't tried to overtake me dangerously.
Now the only problem I'm having (besides the smoke from the front end somewhere) is that when going 100kph my lips get really dry and hurt :( But I'm sure thats nothing lip balm won't help :)

Congratulations....well done to you and your partner.
Ride with your visor down and wear a bandana across your face, then you wont suffer with burnt/sore lips when going at faster speeds.
It also keeps the bugs out of your face and eyes when the visor is down.

Yeah I always ride with my visor down, when on normal roads I have it open about 1cm to let air in because I'm not going fast, but when on the motorway or open roads I have my visor completely closed... The wind/air blows in from under the helmet... I tried using a bandana/scarf... but it was uncomfortable...

I have a piece of material (brushed fluffy stuff like the inside of sweatshirt) velcro'd under the chin piece - stops all air draughting up onto my face.

Where out west do you live crashe? I've riden out to Henderson before... or is it more west than that
lol making bikes noises does make the bike go faster... hehe another thing that makes your bike faster... looking in your mirrors and seeing an 18 wheeler truck coming up behind you going very fast... and your already going 100kph... that makes you go faster too...
At the moment I wear a short scarf that I wrap around my neck once and then pull up to cover my chin and then click my helmet strap thingy over the scarf to hold it in place... but it never stays in place... so it doesn't help much...

lol yeah we took our L-oser plates off right there in the car park... had to grab them from my partner before she biffed them into the bushes/garden right infront of the instructors...
Took them home and threw them in the bin (both were being held together by cello-tape lol)

Just sent you a PM...

Try doing the bandana up across your nose over your ears and reasonably tight. then you can then pull it down over your nose if need after you have the helmet on. Thats how I do it.... and it works.
Congrats, girls!
As many have mentioned before, you never stop learning... :niceone:
