Hi there everyone, i am after some help 9 months ago i was involved in a workplace accident where i slipped & feel 5 1/2 feet off a back of a truck which shattered a disc in between my vertabrae, 6 months later i had to have a operation which they removed the disc and used a plate and some screws to hold the two vertabrae in place (they call it a disc fusion) also damaged was my nerve which runs down my leg and because the operation took so long the nerve has been permanently compressed and will not heal and my back where the operation sight is it is permanently numb and also causes me alot of pain as well as periodic numbness in the left foot, so i have fallen into the category of not much more they can do. So everyday i am taking medication to help with the pain but it only takes the edge off the pain and have been forced to use crutches to get around also i have contacted a lawyer to seek compensation but according to the lawyer i have left it to long. I have been a motorcyclist for a number of years but now my days of riding motorbikes are basically over as i cannot ride or even feel the pedals to change gear but the good news is that my son has inherited the Harley and goes around with a big grin on his face so what i am wanting to know if anybody knows of any group or organisation that could help get me into a trike, i would take out a loan but being on ACC i could not afford the payments as we are just bearly surviving now and as most of you no if you could not ride anymore then what would you do and when i hear motorbikes travelling around my heart sinks.

I am not looking for sympathy and this is a genuine request, so if you are able to help then please let me know. I would be much appreciated for your help as well.

If you have any questions then i will do my best to answer it.

Thankyou

What about a CanAm Spyder? Better, more fun option than a trike but that's your call I guess.
As for it being left too long to claim comp, sounds like a crock of shit to me, I'd be seeking second and even third opinions, don't accept that crap mate.

Cant help with the back stuff etc....bummer though. Wouldnt you sell your Harley and use the cash to buy a trike, rather than give it away?

Never thought I would say this but.....
get a better lawyer, the one you spoke to apparently doesn't like to work.
Talk to some other lawyers and ask them who is the best/toughest SOB in the city and go see him.
Sorry to hear about your injuries, all the best.

Sorry to hear about your injuries, them saying you have left it too late doesn't sound right to me,if you had an accident and it's affected your life(not to mention the pain),you should be able to get compensation.

I can imagine it would be really tough to not be able to ride anymore,I hope your able to get some compensation, and then maybe get on a trike or something..:)

Also sorry to hear about your injuries. Why are you discussing your case with a lawyer? Isn't ACC coming to the party? I'm not sure what else is available to your particular case but a friend of mine severed the nerve in her left arm after a bike accident. ACC paid to have her car converted to be driven with one arm only. It has a cool truckers knob on the steering wheel that has indicator buttons. They also covered her surgeries and rehab etc. I don't understand how any lawyer can state that "you have left it too long for compensation" when all you need is the initial accident report and ACC number and medical notes from the attending Drs. More details would be helpful.
Hope you are recovering and at least get your pain under control

You will need a decent lawyer, ACC are a bunch on cunts, there is no other word for them. If they can weasel out of a payment they will and they love to put back problems down to 'fair wear & tear'. You will have to be determined. Go for it and good luck.

If I was you I'd for sure look at the Can Am Spyder but even a good second hand one will be $25K

I agree with both posts (except the stuff said about bikes, I know fuck all about bikes), but I see people on ACC almost daily at work, I hear lots of different stories about claimants dealing with ACC but the one common denominator, is that if anything.. squeaky wheel gets the oil... from what I have seen its true, keep fighting and good luck.

according to the lawyer i have left it to long.

This is wrong.

The ruling on what your lair is saying is usually along the lines of 'reasonable amount of time'.

Given the mechanism of injury and the nature of it, i'd say nine months falls well within the scope of a reasonable time frame.

Find another liar.

So yeah call your ACC "officer" in charge of your claim and tell him you will forget all about the upcoming law suit against them and "call it even" for one of those bad boys!!

and ....it also comes with hot blonde slut in a bikini! (probably at an extra on "hourly rate" basis..as they usualy do but at least "our" ACC money will be put to good use :D...finally!)

There was a recent Herald article about people who are having their claims denied due to "degeneration".

Search The Herald online and the article also gives the name of the lawyer who is taking ACC to task over these desicions.
Looks like he specialises in giving ACC the shits.

There is a Trike club down Maces road next to Bromley park. They are up the long drive with a octoganal 2 story building easily seen from the street. Mike is the guy who owns the premises and I am sure they will help in anyway they can. They have one member who is paralisied and goes to all the rallies. He carries his wheel chair on the back of the trike and is quite independant.
