Guys,

I have been coming across the term Roll on Roll off. Anyone know how this applies to opening and closing the throttle i.e. Does roll on mean to open the throttle?

Got it in one! Yup, to roll on usually means to accelerate at a moderate rate and rolling on and off the throttle usually refers to adjusting your speed for cornering with gentle throttle movements rather than rapid acceleration and braking. Indicates a smooth and steady progress through a series of corners.

Thought I'd better get in before the resident wits come along and tell you other things it could mean...

Do you have a licence yet, or a bike in mind?

Check this. It's a chop up but the whole movie (or book) is easy enough to get hold of.

I have my bike up for sale at present, it's on TradeMe if it's the type of bike you're looking for. A reluctant sale, but my current state of health means it may be months yet before I can get back on it and if it sells it would help with some house repairs we have to do. No problem if it doesn't I'll just keep it until I can ride again, but I'd like it to go to someone who will appreciate it...

Awesome. Was just reading the book. The video is so much better. Will have to keep an eye out next time I'm at the store for a DVD.

You should attend the California Superbike School at Hampton Downs. Then you can put what's in the book and DVD into practice! The first drill they teach you on the first day is....yep you guessed it - Throttle Control.

You'll be pretty stunned at the difference a day at the school can make to your riding.

Yeah I relisted it though. What I like about the C50T is that it can be most things to most purposes. It's a laid back cruiser, a loaded up tourer or the best sports bike any cruiser can be. It really wicks it up if you're in the mood and I've impressed my mates with their GSX1400's and Bandits, even around the Coro...

No it's not a GSX-R by any stretch, but it'll do what the mood wants. I'd recommend riding your brother's one and trying it out.

Bet my brother would love what you have. If I do upgrade am thinking may go for the Honda CBRR 1000.

Have you been?

Sure have! Done the first two levels and couldn't recommend it highly enough. To put it simply the techniques they teach you will save your life one day.

Also don't listen to people who say it's only for racers or sports bikes. The techniques apply to every bike and every rider. The last time there was a guy on a big ol' Ambulance bike.

I'll be back in the new year to complete levels 3 and 4.

Also the 2nd Twist of the Wrist is what you need...don't bother with the first one.

Did you do it over in Oz or did you do it in the States? How much did you have to pay in total? Be very keen to do it. Do you ride in Auckland? Be keen to go riding with if you are. Have ridden with complete idiots in the past and would like to ride with someone who knows what they are doing and saying.

Am on chapter 2 as we speak.

You are correct.

Yes, there is a third book. It might be called "The soft science of road racing". My mistake.

I think you might be better off attending something like NASS or SASS first, and then when you have some more skills an ART day, and then maybe the Superbike School.

In NZ mate. Darren Sweetman runs the school at Hampton Downs. Check out the link below...

http://www.californiasuperbikeschool.co.nz/

All the pricing is on the site and the school dates.

Give Darren a call and have a chat with him. He'll be able to answer all your questions.

Also at Hampton Ride Days (http://www.hamptondownsridedays.co.nz/) they always have a CSS coach on hand to provide additional coaching if you need it.

Yeah I don't agree. If you have a full bike license then the Superbike School is perfect.

Everyone starts at the same level whether you're Pro or someone who can just let the clutch out. In my level 1 group there was Choppa and some older bird who barely broke 80km/hr all day.
