Very impressive. First time I have seen a Seafire, very cool plane. unusual prop setup. Thanks for sharing that.

Some years ago, I saw one of these in the flesh. It was flying back to Ardmore (I think) from Hamilton after an air show at Rukahia. We were at a friend's place just north of Ngaruawahia when it flew overhead...the whistle you hear in a couple of the passes in the video was really apparent as it flew past us. The dude must have had it pretty much tapped out, because it appeared up over the horizon like a peregrine in a power dive and was gone over the opposite horizon in one half of two fifths of fuck all time - it just screamed through the air - literally and figuratively. It made the hair on the back of my neck stand up and raised goosebumps all over my arms and legs. I couldn't speak for about half a minute afterwards.

Some plane.

Dang! Run outta broadband, catch this later. I remember the first time seeing a Sea Fury at the Wanaka Airshow and being gobsmacked at this mighty machine. I believe it is regarded as the finest and last of the prop driven fighter planes.

I saw one at an Ohakea airshow some years ago - was amazed at how big it was (for a single seater) never saw it in action though. Thanks for posting.

Yep - fabulous machine. Even watching that video, I am silenced for about two minutes afterwards...

Notice how much the '109G smokes. Obviously the DB605 burns a lot of fuel with the supercharger !!

the 109 sounds great, nice scary whine, like the sirens they put on the stukas.
its funny how sometimes the third reich markings are perfectly acceptable on some things like planes, but not on others.

I wonder if it is Fuel Control Unit set-up? The DB 605 engine was miles ahaed of it's time. I believe they had high pressure direct fuel injection. Even today's fuel injected aero engines are just low pressure continuous flow

... its funny how sometimes the third reich markings are perfectly acceptable on some things like planes, but not on others. No swastika's on that one. The issue is that they're illegal in Germany on anything including models. So a lot of model aircraft kits either don't have the swastikas included at all or they're supplied in pieces to get around the law. Real German WW2 aircraft in the UK or here have the swastika's on them but not in Germany - they're a bit sensitive about them for some reason.

Could be keen, you going to ride up?Not at this stage. Last time I rode up for the day, but it was all a bit of a rush, and I've always wanted to do the gold pass thing at Omaka or Wanaka. The Mosquito and FW190 are enough of a draw card that I'm seriously looking at treating myself to a 3 day gold pass and taking the cage and the good camera gear. A day of looking through the view finder, a day of just enjoying the sights and sounds and a day in lieu for a bit of both.

Got the broadband back and thanks guys. Goosepimples and shivers up the spine from the above. I remember watching Tim Wallace fly his Spitfire over Arrowtown just to share the joy of the thing and being mesmerised by the sight and sound. There is something truely eerie in the snarl of the Rolls Royce Merlin engine which is underscored by the sinister whistle. Does that comes from the wing tips?
