Each place we have been to has been awesome, can we keep this up? remote, bush, cabbins, cooking etc... getting kinda hard yeah?
Were bouts the Hasst, nelson lakes, Teanau, picton sounds?

If we follow the current formula it will have to be up norf somewhere; maybe Nelson lakes, but as I don't have much knowledge of the area I'm happy to go with the flow.

It's the SI K/B rally.

You could start by suggesting somewhere to hold the thing.....

I did have a vague thought about this place in the lewis pass

http://www.boyle.org.nz/

Same sort of set up as this years venue, don't know too much about the place or even if they do casual accomodation for bunches of scruffy motorcyclists, but it's in the right sort of northish direction.

I would vote go with that area ... I'm sure we could find somewhere ...

Okey dokey then...I'm thinking and it hurts. Not heard of Doyle River but there's a cool looking campground over Tapawera way....also a fun one over Murchison way...I'll get looking around. xx

Murch sounds like a good spot - but it has preferably be a spot where KBers can be in isolation so's we don't upset other campers.

Other 'GoodThings'(tm) are a sealed road, huts instead of tents, a communal area where we can all sit around and talk crap (we're good at that) and cooking facilities.:woohoo:

Feel free to add to this list if you feel like it you KB Gathering veterans.

Meh, bugger-all sandflies while we were there from my experience.I didn't notice any sandflies either ... the mosquitoes however! I'm sure the bloody things tried to carry me away during the night. I woke up Sun morning bitten all over. The last of the bites is nearly gone now.

The only place in New Zealand with twin engined mosquitos, (and sandflies.)

Well its just my 10c worth.

How's about Kaiteriteri? Heaps to see, very near to the Takaka hill road, nice weather, close to the north island so some of the northern riders can turn up, close to farewell spit, no sandflies, I know its touristy but its that for a reason.

Daffyd
26th December 2010, 20:53
It certainly is a great wee spot... Is there reasonably cheap accommodation available, and are there close neighbours that could be inconvenienced?

Genie
27th December 2010, 06:41
There is a place over the back where they have school camps etc...I'll check it out this week. There's also some super places down the sounds, but as you say....the Takaka Hill.

Cheers, is that on the back road that swings through the hills back onto the hill road? I grew up in this area but some of the details have been lost over the last 40 years.

Even the ride to say Collingwood for lunch is a great trip, the small restaurant in the old hall is fantastic. I will be picking up a supply of carrot and mustard seed chutney from upper moutere on the way back. There is also those 2 big springs pupu and the grotto (I think it is called) that are worth a look.

The Takaka hill has to be the best bit of motorcycle road in the country.

Any chance of changing when we have it????the date is difficult for some......Not that a date has been chosen yet, but it doesn't matter what date is chosen, any date will be "difficult for some". So moving from one date to another will probably just pass the "difficulty" on from one person to another.

Personally I can manage most dates these days, now that the kids have grown up and are doing their own thing, so the actual date doesn't really bother me. However I do like the end of year timing of the event as it fits nicely after the last of the years rallies and before the new years rallies, the weather is usually good, and it's a good "let your hair down / wind down" from the year that's been.

I think the current date is cool even it if it happened I could not get to it, But so far so good.
As for location for the year aheads one, the northern end sounds totally sweet, Lakes, Tasman, or similer would be wicked.... Karamea would be an interesting destination one year. Tiki touring around old mine sites and stuff.

Daffyd
28th December 2010, 13:42
My vote is for the 2nd weekend in December as I'm a creature of habit.

I see Old Mac's is for sale...why don't we all chip in and buy it; then we could go there every year. (PT) :bye:

the northern end of the Sth Island is great, but the camp ground idea is not, if ya remember our sounds were turned off at 11pm as the other campers didn't like it even tho we had booked the camp & forwarned them about the noise they said it would NOT be a problem & yet they turned off the sounds  but in saying that we still had a great time :woohoo:

outdoor centre's, woolsheds with shearers quarters, places like this where jo public can't crash or where we piss them off because of noise etc...
