So long as they don't have a event on the weekend that is generally true, if they have events planned sometimes the Friday is unavailable as it will be used for their practice
You are meant to have a spotter (or used to have to)as well but any random guy in the pits will normally sign for that

...I was under the impression that a person had to belong to a m/c club to use the track on these days....? I recently had to verify a person as belonging to our club to the man on duty from the car club, before they would let him on the track...

Not unless they've changed the rules recently, as kickaha points out. And that would be common knowledge I would've thought.

...its only being phoned to verify that someone was a member that made me think this...seldom been out there testing...always used a few k of road out my way over the last twenty years...thats kind of come to an end now...even the quietest of country roads seem to be chocker with traffic, these days...may even be out there myself...wouldnt mind a bit of time with a new motor before Levels on saturday...

Oh fuck, you're kidding right? If not, what corner? And how are you and the bike? Any idea why it happened?
R1GEEZA
7th January 2011, 19:50
lol no not kidding. was only a small slide, no major damage just scuffs on Lh fairing, and small crack. indicator gone and scrached up crankcase cover. no injuried other than a sore thumb!!!!! was at the hairpin......just came in too fast for me and panicd wen i missed gear. think i was abit tense and nervous this probably didnt help

Nah definitely not, it really pays to relax, especially on your first time around a new track. Get used to your surroundings etc. Glad to hear you are ok and that the bike isn't too bad. Need a hand with anything holler out.

thanks man appreciate it but luckily im a painter so wont be a 2 much of a prob. 1 question tho...my rear tyre is in really bad shape now (not sure if its stuffed) the rubber on the front has balled/ruffened up lyk ud expect but definatly heaps of life left in it but wen i got home had a look on the rear and its all started to peal away from the next layer (carcus?) on the edges. would be gutted to think its ready for the bin after 1 ride out to aka and 1 day on track. surely this isnt right

I've not seen that before, and a quick search on the web netted nothing. Maybe someone else could shed some light on it, either that or pop into a reputable tyre shop.
[edit] Is it the side on which the bike went down? Or is it on both sides?
R1GEEZA
8th January 2011, 08:45
yea i couldnt find anythin on the wen. its on both sides but the worst bits are on the opposite side to which it fell so not related. ill take it in and ask

sure is a defective tyre, hope you had fun sorry you went down wasnt your fault tho oh, the new seal they put down last week on that corner was slippery. another corner with new repair seal caused a crash as well...apart from that was a good day!!

as for the tyre i just went in and they said it is fine! caused from too low pressure (was 32 cold) ? appently its rubber thats been pushed down towards the edge not pealing away from the edge.... it didnt look like that too me but shows how much i know

Looking at the pictures that's what I would have picked, although the photography isn't the best
You'll find you can probably pick/peel/scrape it off and the tyre will look like new underneath

If you're going out to Ruapuna tomorrow approach Red (Pete) Fenton, RRR Superbike team. Not only does he run a team in the nationals, but he is the local Ohlins/Racetech etc rep in town. I've just had my bike in this week at his shop. Really helpful bloke who, if he has the time, will be more than happy to talk tech with you.

there was a guy out there who was also on an 02 r1 and let me copy his set up which i thought was fkn good of him. the rear shock was the biggie, massive improvement..... i think he had had some mods to his forks though cuz his setting were way soft for my bike but 1 of the guys from yamaha was quick to help me out and firm it up so everything work together. would of been a compleate mind fk for me so its really good how people out there are willing to help
