94 Honda VT250 Magna?

They are on a similar plane to the Suzuki Marauder and a Hyosung Aquila.

Reliability: it's a Honda, it won't be shit unless it has been treated like shit.
Comfort: each to their own, but it will be fairly relaxed to most people.
Agility: that word is not very synonymous with cruisers, it's also a bigger one for the 250 range.

But I don't know a lot.

If you're thinking about getting one of these then have a look at the Kymco Venox 250 at Christchurch city scooters. I had one for about just over a year and I LOOOVVVED it. Newer and slightly more modern looking than the Magna.

City scooters are no more. they sold their kymco's up pretty much and are just focusing on their rental business. They new people are now Escuta who are on the shop floor with the couple who used to own city scooters just working in the background.

I think their is a venox at sportzone suzuki (and maybe 1 left at escuta (used to be city scooters) on allen street)

wow, I'm suprised to hear that.
anyway...... The Venox was a beast man. I got people gawking at me everywhere I went. I even had one guy comment "nice Harley" when I went to the supermarket once...... :lol:

Yip, I read a review somewhere about a venox; it seemed like a good cruiser from all accounts.

The venox and magna 250 are the same. Literally. The differences lay in a few of the covers, such as the strut covers, and the way a few pieces attach are slightly different. That's it. Same for everything else, including person who designed them.

You should be able to pick up a 2nd hand magna easier and cheaper than a venox. They are less common and more expensive.

Reliability: Have heard of no serious problems with them, ever. Never seen a brake down of one, ever. Worse I've seen was a wire loose under the tank of one, and that was easily fixed.

Comfort: If you are over 6 feet and 100kg like me, anything more than commuting a few suburbs over and you might feel cramped. Seat is of a design that you could easily take it to an upholster and get it more or less padded

Power: Is what it is. It's a 250... will happily putter along at 50. With me on it, no head wind, and long straight road, I've gotten one with a custom exhaust up to 130km. Someone smaller than me would get more, and it would accelerate better (instead of slowly winding up to get to 100 and up). For a very strong head wind, you will find that you won't get buffeted around as much as a 250 sports bike, but you might also find your top speed drops to about 80-95kmph

Agility: Superb for it's style. The up swept pipes of a stock bike give it a good amount of lean, and the fatter 120 front tire holds on the road better on turns.

I'm 6ft 2" and weigh around 85Kgs so buyin a sports bike was never really an option. I've done a few ling trips since I've gotten it and I find it spot on. Has a nice bit of torque for a 250 with its long bore strokes. I've had it up to 120kms. Probaby wudda got a bit more out of it but I was already shitting it as Im still on my L plate and it was on the motorway between Lower Hutt all Welly city so I was half expecting a big gust a wind to pick me up and fuck me into the sea.

I owned a 2001 Magna, beautifully put together, but not the best in corners, I got mine easily to 110KPH but up a hill with a headwind was another thing altogether. On the open road you are at the mercy of the cages due to the modest 22HP. I would if I was in the market for another 250 cruiser go for the Hyosung Aquilla, a few more horses and better handling, I chased one on SH16 and I was surprised how quick and agile it was!

I've sat on the Aquila (and many other 250 cruisers when I was in the market) and while I think its a lovely looking bike, it just felt a bit too small. I knew nothing bout Hyosung bikes until I got to NZ in May (dont have'm back home) but I've read some dodgey things on here bout them.

I think one problem with the Hyosung, is the dealers never seem to last. Hamiltons had a couple of changes of dealership in the last year or so. The bikes themselves seem to be reasonable value for the money. I understand the engines are made under licence from Suzuki.
