"people buy these things with image in mind"

You don't think that's true of Yamaha or Honda or Ducati?

Without an image to aspire to there is no earthly reason for a GSXR or FZR or whatever the latest R is that's doing the rounds. There is no useful reason for these items so a desire has to be created to want them anyway.

Anyone who denies that part of the reason they bought their bike (other than strict <400c commuter perhaps) was because of the way it made them feel is lying.

So Harley says that their bike will make you feel good? So does everyone else

Would have to disagree with this. I brought mine because i simply like the way it looks and rides. No image required. I had a Harley for a few years and ended up getting rid of it for a couple of good reasons. 1 was because it handled like shit and 2 because they were being taken over by wannabe's. Actually got nothing against the bike itself too much. They were reliable enough and once you spent a few grand on them they sort of went ok.

So you bought your current bike because of how it looks (partly), well that is related to image I reckon.

As for the handling like shit, do you mean it didn't handle like a sports bike?

I am new to Harley, but I wanted a bike I could just cruise on. And the harley does that for me. I don't ride fast, I don't corner knee down and don't need to be in front of every vehicle on the road.

So for me the harley is a good ride, I grin when I am on it, it is a simple bike, but the sportys are supposed to be pretty reliable. I am sure you can dredge up many horror stories. You could for any model or brand these days given technology like google.

I imagine it is more about picking the ride that will make you most happy and suit the style of riding you do. For me now, it is a cruiser. The cruiser I chose happens to be a harley. I tried a few japanese ones, and didn't grin, the trumpys were just out of my price range so the harley it is. And so far I am loving it.

WILD HOGS!!!

A lot of people around here buy them for general transport and they do a great job. What you get is quite good value for money compaired to what the other mc companies are offering.
But with the weather right now I will stick with my winter rig as pictured.
