The article (Mr Eaqub says the bottom 60 percent of income earners will be the hardest hit and consumer spending could remain subdued for several years.) is a little vague, but it's more of a possibility than not? Fuel and GST have gone up, as have ACC Employee Levies, "producers" will have to up their prices to compensate for loss of profit  and the news from some economist isn't exactly encouraging.

Best to get digging & get that garden growing people:yes:
Alot easier & cheaper for us all, than trying to get that payrise.
Saw somwhere that many food articles are up 30%:shit:
As someone once said"You cant eat money"
And I reckon its hard to eat nowadays without it.....unless you grow it yourself.

Might ask the local farmers if they'll sell their hens and roosters... or even pigs.

Im surprised that more people dont....I'd be happy to sell stock for the same price I'd get per kg at the sales, its the other 70% added on after that makes it expensive.
So if you pay for the homekill dude, pay me the going rate at the mo which is somewhere around $3.20 or so, get it cut up how you want(excluding saussies & corned beef) works out for you around $6.00 per kg. Talking Beef here. But most people cant be fucked or cant afford a 1/4 or 1/2 a beast.
Or rock up on yer boik to the sales, truss up them thar sheep on yer pack rack & Bobs yer uncle.
So yeah, go find a farmer....there's still a few in business.
Or grow veggies....easier still.

:gob: It is illegal. They're tightening the noose on homekills in a big way. Best not to advertise your intentions. I'm interested tho

I've "farm-bought" beef (split amongst various family) and will do the same for pork in the near future - the "home-kill" operator was licensed to do the butchery thing.
Others in my work-place, who are on lifestyle blocks and grow their own, also use licensed operators. In this example, "home-kill" is a bit of a mis-description.
The taste sensation was worth the effort.

It's all fine and well people being able to "buy" part of a cow. Some people have the money available to do these things... unfortunately the MAJORITY don't. Are we giving a shit about the majority these days? :shifty:... So if you have no land and no animals, you have to buy or steal your food... TPTB don't give a fuck because it's not their look out... could be that TPTB aren't the only ones :shit:
As someone once said"You cant eat money"
But you can "Eat the rich"... they probably taste like foie gras too

I was back in NZ 2 years ago after being away for 8 yrs and was horrified at the general cost of living compaired to the states. Every day stuff, food, drinks all atleast double the price after exchange rate taken into account. Meat especially more than double. The average persons wage here is similar to NZ dollar for dollar so it is cheaper to survive here. But I really miss the place for all its faults...

My family and friends get beef off me and they says its getting hard but they can buy a share of the animal then it is in their ownership too which makes it sweet as .
well so i am told , maybe i am wrong but i think there is more to sort out before they try to get onto people getting some decent meat instead of the shitty cull cow in super markets.
the meat on air new zealand first class is from shitty cull cows.
i wont name the processors that have the contract but they were openly telling farmers when they got the contract to supply air nz.
you cant beat home killed meat,
we rear red vealers and man are they the best steaks out.
even the blade steak of them are magic bbqed.
we buy pigs direct of the growers and it is legal.
the abbatoirs slaughter them for us and send and we just pick up the carcass and drop off to the butcher .
My wife and kids drink the cows milk but it is too rich for me ,
I do think about what townies eat for meat when i see the prices in the supermarket.

Maybe it's time to get another freezer and approach you guys directly. We've been shopping from day to day as with just the two of us now and the Supermarket just down the road it's been easy but I've really noticed the price rises lately and with a freezer we could buy for the family and share costs.

Well if I was an urban dweller I'd be raising meat rabbits.....1/2 of Europe does.Think of the education possibilities for the children who could have pet rabbits to teach them responsibility & how to rear animals, plus the lesson of the cold hard facts of where your pound of flesh comes from:yes:
But as Mashy said about the price of meat, just look at the other 1/2 of the worlds population who have never even tasted it.....seeds are cheap for a start then from then on you can save your own (unless monsanto has a gene in there somwhere).
As others have said , once you buy a cow off me, its yours.........Its YOU who "gets" the licensed homekill provider to do it for you.
Im proud to be a pagan heathen & there'll be something sacraficial on the Barby, while we all dance around yelling & grunting this New Year. Some of us no doubt will be having mushrooms as the entre':msn-wink: Good also for Soltices & equinox celebrations too:yes::yes::yes:

Mash you know they had worked out that they were gonna get double the amount back even before the tax cuts, its all just bullshit, they go on about people saving, the only people I know saving are people saving for their flights to Oz. Simple solution for food is for 7 to 10 people to each grow plenty of one or two items and be good at it, and swap between the others, meat could be a product of one of the group ??, supermarket shareholders are making the bucks and most are hooked on holding on to a shopping trolley, small time collectism is a start regards paying less tax and eating better, 1 Tateee = a zuceeeeni the group set the tarrif sort of thing, The problem is we trust a Gov that allows tax on food by way of GST, they are taxing the food our children eat, on top of taking personal tax from the money you earn to pay for the food, talk about normalising the unthinkable. Its just my point of view, No tax on food, its immoral really, anyway you look at it. Increase tax on every stage of production, increase tarrif's etc, up gst, ACC, and all the costs of compliance and give yourself a pay rise, its obvious were all in the wrong job, sheeeeet

I always thought the concept of the "Green Dollar Exchange" was a good idea, whereby you agree between buyer & seller on the value of goods traded (in green dollars). You can then trade in goods or services or if you have nothing to trade at the time your acc. is debited or vice versa credited....if I remember correctly ? Still think that there are these exchanges operating & that the Govt has NO TAKE from these transactions & that it was cleared as o.k by the commerce comission.
You still wont be able to pay your rates of fill up your car though, but it was meant so people could trade without money.
Bartering really....

where is the middle ground eh.We are a small country with relatively small income, mainly because we are a primary producer. The infrastructure we require and expect is shared amongst a small group of payees. No doubt here are inefficincies and corruption, within the system but by and large it is a system we allthink is fair in its basic form(ie support for those who need it)
regarding tax on food how do you do it.....all fresh food is untaxed?all food outside of a retail(restaurant etc) is untaxed..it all adds complexity and cost to the tax system(and opportunities for more loopholes)

Your a farmer? I thought with that avatar you were an acid freak from the sixties.
Who said the two were mutually exclusive
The taste sensation was worth the effort.
It can also spell total disaster if the process is not done well. Imagine a freezer full of a years worth of meat, that no matter how you cook it, it is tough and chewy and very average.
Well if I was an urban dweller I'd be raising meat rabbits.....
Had a friend that bred rabbits for meat. You still need quite an operation to make that work well. Then you need someone with the guts to dispatch the rabbits for you. Chooks are another really cool home grown food, exception, not allowed in urban areas.
it is exists, but the IRD can and will still assess your "income" for tax purposes
And from really recent experience, their assessment policy is WAY out of whack, makes no odds you get to pay, or if you dont, you get hounded into court to defend bankruptcy, all good fun, till the fat lady sings. My weight has been slowly dropping so feel reasonably happy all will come right

Heh, I know they aren't stupid :). They encourage NZ'ers to save to generate local investment, but when ?most? NZ'ers save, they save with an overseas bank  then NZ is "opened up" to the foreign investor, no doubt with some added tax incentive :killingme:... Where does the investment go ... they, aren't stupid.
There are plenty of sensible things we could be doing, 7 out of 10 etc... It just seems that if there isn't a profit in it, then it can't be pursued... understandable as people don't work for free  Completely agree with the removing of "tariff" from food etc... but alas, there are those who would exploit the definition of "Food", and therefore ruin any chance of food de-tarifferizering ever being considered again. It is immoral, but the alternative is taking food straight to market and wiping out an industry...
... unless of course NZ was free, and by default the food would go straight to market (i can freeze peas too :shit:) and there would be no "industry" to wipe out.
