Holiday road toll climbs higher

Two people have died on North Island roads this afternoon, taking the toll for the holiday period to five.

A person was killed in a collision between a car and motorcycle on a metal road near Whanganui shortly before 2pm.

Police have closed Kaiwhaiki Rd, off State Highway 4, on the outskirts of Whanganui. They could not confirm if the victim was in the car or on the bike.

Kaiwhaiki rd is a no exit rd, leading to a small settlement.
Might be a local from that community.

I am just checking, too. I hope it's nobody we know. Regardless, it is a sad event. I always have a false sense of security on gravel roads. It's a timely reminder to pull my head in.
