for the presenters wearing burqa type clothing during filming.

Wonder how long it will take for the retribution to begin, given that it doesn't seem to take much to get the fanatics going?

Really? The reviews I was hearing while over there was that it was a pile of fetid knob cheese.

not at all. Top gear australia was the most rediculous thing ever, and not just because of their accents. but mainly they tried to be everything the UK guys were, and they just couldnt be.

but TG USA isnt trying to be UK, and for that reason i think US > UK at the moment.
i actually enjoy it. the presenters are good. and its in america so ofcourse it has good cars!. that ford raptor bit has me convinced to buy one :D

As a Christian I was deeply offended by tonight's Top Gear where it was suggested that the the new 'Stig' was born in Israel.

The Stig is a fictional character dressed in white, whose entire history is nothing more than a load of ridiculous, made up stories and no one has ever actually seen him.
Whereas Jesus...

So, it was FAR better than that crap Aussie version of the programme?

I tend to agree, I used to really enjoy it, haven't bothered watching since they did that redneck episode.

It is a shame 5th Gear was cancelled and not this dross.
At least 5th Gear still talked about the cars. Top Gear seems to be all about the presenters now.

Meh theres only so many clichéd car reviews you can sit through, Top Gear UK is one of the most un-pc TV shows, for that reason alone its worth watching. Clarkson's a bit of a knob but entertaining none the less.

Whilst I agree that there are certain groups in society just waiting to be offended by something........let's face it, that was the whole point in Top Gear doing it...which for a while may be mildly amusing, but after a while it wears a bit thin. Unfortunately TG have been doing that for years.....bring back William Woollard !!..(if he's still with us?)

Haha yeah that's true.

I must say TG has strayed a bit from cars these days,it's always about the presenters, hamster and clarkson are knobs,James May is okay.

..oh and what's the point in reviewing the new ferraris, lambos etc,who can actually afford them??

TG (UK) has with each passing season become little by little more and more silly, in the beginning it was rubbish but you could garner some useful information out of it and it was entertaining for sure, it's always had the wood on 5th Gear but the gap has narrowed considerably.
The Ozzy TG has always been shit but a shit motoring program is always gonna be better the Coronation Street!
That previously mentioned American TG is surprisingly close to the UK original as it currently stands which means it's silly, biggest disadvantage the Yanks have is it's testing a lot of American cars which means it doesn't matter how good of a line up of presenters they might find it'll always struggle... But I refer back to the Coro st comment.
They should all start incorporating a bike segment into each show.

See, I just tried watching the episode you posted and couldn't get past the first minute because of their "intelligent" sounding accents. Although that big dude I don't think is american since he would choose cars that could actually go around corners :)

Just watched it and , have to say, it showed the countries in a positive light , If I was doing a TV show and was going to stage a stunt like that
with ALL the crew they have

I would have asked or checked

All the people I have known who have spent some time in that area , all say the people are fantastic

but not according to cnn,,,,,,,,, I wonder why

I watched it last night. It was interesting that they did that stunt in Damascus, which is apparently very liberal. I enjoyed Jeremy's very subtle* digs at teh situation "for political reasons we can't....."

Of course Muslims dont have a monopoly on religious stupidity, and some Xtians might find some aspects of the Top Gear "road through Damascus" somewhat disturbing. I won't elaborate because giving it away would spoil the jokes.

I am finally getting round to reading Richard Dawkins "The God Delusion" which made for an interesting counterpoint when watching this.

Its Top Gear though, they're taking the piss. I do think the formula is a bit tired now.

Mate you must be jokeing. That show is a shameless copy of the (now not as good) English original and is a total pile of shit. The yanks have done the same thing to numerous other Brit shows and got it all fucked up. Faulty Towers and Steptoe & Son are 2 classic examples that come to mind. However, Threes Company, a copy of Man About The House was well done.

but TG USA isnt trying to be UK, and for that reason i think US > UK at the moment.

Yes it is, they even use very similar jokes and try to copy the 'unrehersed banta' thing with little success.

How different would it be if they were in the UK with dresses on? Not at all in my opinion

I used to watch TG back in the day (think 1990's) when it used to be on at 2am on BBC1 (TV1 ran their programming in the wee small hours) when it was Jeremy, Tiff and Quienten. It still had the comedy, JC taking the piss out of Vauxhaull, Tiff taking the piss out of JC, Quienten taking the piss out of, well everybody. Sure they did some more serious car reviews, but even back then I didn't watch it for the reviews, I watched it for the content. If I want a review on a particular car, I'll buy a magazine or drive it myself.

Over the years I watched TG concentrate more and more on the humour, and less and less on actual reviews. Perfectly fine by me, I don't watch TV to get bored by stats, measurements and CoD factors, I watch TV to be entertained. And that's what TG does. Entertain.

thats a pretty disingenuous view, given the cultural and social implications of the burka/islamic religion blah blah.

Where they did it (Damascus) is very liberal and they were wearing the only burkas visible anywhere. And, like I say, they are equal opportunity "offenders" in the sense of giving offence: what they did in Israel is probably equally offensive to xtians as well.

It is like the Danish cartoons: a lot of media created bullshit.

Oh I agree. However there is no international standard on levels of silliness, so what may seem silly to you and I may not seem silly to another. And what doesn't seem silly to us, may be way past silly for someone else. Something about not being able to please everyone all the time.
