ahh trees, came back from Trousons Kauri Park yesterday, nothing better than going into a forest on a scorching hot day, wishing I was still there.

In the last week of work before xmas when we were getting 30deg days I left the house thermometer in the car to record the maximum because the car was always bloody hot when I got back to it at around 5pm. The maximum during the day was 61deg and it was still 54deg at 5pm, surprised the hell out me.
It's 33.6 outside right now, but much more pleasant inside with the aircon on.

Really? So the internet ones aren't accurate (30 on Metserv)?

there will always be small areas where it is either hotter or colder than the Metsev temp. Believe they are called micro-climates. Like the one on my deck right now where it will burn the soles of your feet off in the sun or the pebbled area next to it, think I could fry an egg on that.

We have a lovely sea breeze which lulls the unsuspecting northern Europeans into thinking it's not too hot. A lot of the semi naked bodies coming into my shop look like they have leprosy, all purple & flaking. The Spanish & South American girls seem to be able to handle it wearing a bootlace with no ill effects.
It is bloody hot when you get out of the breeze, that's for sure. I would say the river is above 25oC.

Temperatures on (or in) a roof are a bit meaningless - in any environment thermometer placement will give a variety of random numbers. All rather pointless - unless of course you have to go into the roof space...
A standard Fire Alarm heat detector will activate at 57 deg C. They're not used in roof cavities as they would be going off all the time - your reading of 51 deg is not extreme. For roof spaces, 77 deg C detectors are used - and I've seen them activate under extreme weather conditions.
Not fun to work in...:sweatdrop

But it's a dry heat...I wouldn't have a clue what sort of heat it is, I'm inside with the aircon and a beer, and just have a wee look see at the thermometer occasionally. The humidity inside is 32% according to the wee machine.

Where did you get that little machine? I want one too.
P.S. I'm being steamed alive in my own home. Computer's fan is going crazy even I'm not playing any games.

Bought from Dick Smith around 12 years ago and the new ones are exactly the same so they must be fine. Mine's been great, and I've only replaced the batteries once I think, although the display is dimming so I'll have to treat it to some more.
