So. Mrs Oakie and I are packing up the sunblock and heading off to Rarotonga for a week at the start of July. Can anyone recommend a good place to stay? We don't want a hotel and preferably want a place that does not allow small kids.

...its been a while but I was up there at this time of year and there were 40+ days and all we wanted was a place to hide at times, like a hotel room not the cheaper option we took...its only about an hour to get round the whole island on a step.thru...have fun...go fishing...everything bites and nothings small...

We stayed at the Manuia Beach Resort 2 years ago in July. Nice accommodation, lovely people. Meals were average but plenty of alternatives. Happy hour was great. It was mid price range and included a scooter for us to use. As it was 2 years ago, you'll need to get some updated info.

Have also stayed in Vanuatu and Samoa at the same time of year and loved those too. The Sinalei Resort in Samoa is out of this world!

Muri is very very spunky indeed, the lagoon has a crazy calm beauty about it.
We stay at the Edgewater (but kids are allowed so it probably wont suit) not the dearest, not the cheapest and it has everything, the staff are brilliant, and its on the better side of the island....the Western side, where the sun sets.

Pic 3 ...what can I say?

We stayed there for a week in October.

No kids

Own private pool

No kids

Step off the deck down onto the beach

We had an Ultimate Beachfront Villa and when you closed the gate leading into your compound you were/are effectively on your own little piece of paradise

We're going back again

Yeah, we stayed in Samoa 3 years ago at Coconuts Resort, right next door to Sinalei. Looked really nice. Loved Coconuts too though.

Just don't talk to the locals. Had my face fractured in three places. And the hospital is shit.

I stayed at the Moana sands Hotel

Absolute beachfront right in the middle of the marine reserve.

Awesome place I loved spending a week there, can't recommend it enough! :first:
