Weve entered two sidechairs as of today.
Trace & Jo will be on the pink bike, & Scrivy & I are going to dust off the old yellow 1300 Hayabusa powered short chair for the first time in two years for a quick thrill, before taking it to Eastern Creek in April.
Contrary to a report in Bike Rider Mag this month, my classic BMW sidecar is only on loan to the Mickleson family, & weather Neville & Jo run it at Paeroa will depend on their decision & Nevilles right arm coming right in time.
Scrivy & I will be back on the BMW sometime next year.

Happy to not have a rider there this year. Cannot see the attraction for spectators top riders don't want to ride there so the racings not much chop, hot as buggery and maybe a view of 50 metres of track if your lucky. HD or Manfeild rounds the nats offer spectators a much better spectacle. Then theres the dangerous nature of the track and despite generating a good amount of cash little seems to make it back to the sport.

Most of the spectators have no clue who the top riders are !!!
They like it 'cause there are lots of Ducatii (is that the plural of Ducati ?) racing.
They like it 'cause there are sidecars racing
They like it 'cause even though they may only see 50 m of track they can stand 1.5 meters away from it and feel the slipstream when a Super-bike blat's down the main street at 300 klicks
They like it 'cause the bikes do wheelies over the bumps
They like it 'cause there are always some crashes
They like it 'cause it is stinking hot and that means they can drink loads of beer/wine/Bourbon & coke and get shit faced.
They like it 'cause big fat slobs who have never had sex with another person in the room can swagger about wearing T-shirts with things like "If you can read this the bitch fell off" on the back and think that everyone will think it's funny.
They like it 'cause you can see about 2000 bikes in the bike park (some of them show quality and some just rare)
I like it for the same reasons (except the crashes and the misogynist T-shirts)
I believe it was started to raise money for flood-relief (or some other noble purpose) and the money raised goes to local "good causes" and the Auckland club runs it as a favour.

So what's the difference with Wanganui?
There are few points at Paeroa that you can see much action, just little sections, whereas at the Cemetery Circuit there are a number of points where you can see a full corner and the exit from the previous one and entry for the next as well.
That's what does it for me mainly.

I'm heading along to watch for the first time, and simply can't wait. Had a fantastic day at Wanganui, and should be able to make it to about 3 rounds of the Nationals too. And you are right - many of us spectators wouldn't have a clue who the top riders are, but also many, like me, are slowly learning the more they watch, and the longer they stick around.
What a great day it's going to be. Road trip from wellington anyone?

Personal Bias , who'd have thought such a thing would ever rear its head on KB, but I really dislike the place. Crowds may hold up for a while but with our top street riders like Stroud, Shirrifs, Love and Cole(not totally sure with Nick) not interested in riding there they will dwindle.

The rugby club around the back usually has a secure gear and bike park. They give you a bag to put your gear in, you leave your bike in their car park and last time I used it only cost $5.00. They had camping on the field as well.

Perhaps I am in the minority - but if the top blokes are not racing I will be a lot less likely to go. Watching the likes of Craig, Andrew etc battling the young Aussie hotshots is a brilliant spectacle and something I as an ex racer (very average) can appreciate and feel it is worth paying the entry fee for.

They could have Bozo the clown racing there and they would still have 1000's of people turn up.
Crowd goes like this:
5% know the racers
20% ride motorbikes
30% like racing
50% like big events
70% like motorbikes
I went to the Speedway last week and had a great time. Had no idea who ANYONE was - and I suspect that at least 70% of the crowd was in the same boat. But man in the last laps of the 50 lapper everyone was on the edge of their seat. And I still didn't know the names of the American and Kiwi who drew for 1st.....but whoar what a race.
So no - don't really give a fuck if the top racers don't compete. Who knows might end up with better racing without them. More competitive racing.

Then I dare you to stage a coup.
Don't turn up.
All of you can sit round looking at a Stroud calendar in a shed while the rest of us will watch some fantastic racing of the "b" riders around a exciting road circuit.
I am going for the sport and the event. Before Stroud there was Rees, before then there was Holden...... Riders come and go - but the BOS has never been boring.
I would rather pay for 10 b grade riders that have "potential" than 1 a grade who could fuck up anyway. This is Battle of the Streets - not some BS trackday nana shit - man up or go home.

Jeepers mate you havin a bad day?? It was only an opinion! WTF was that rant about??
FFS of coarse I'll still go if Stroud isn't there but I meant what I said in agreeing with Choppa it would be bad for the event if all the big names decided not to come!
And I did say
Stroud etc and
the other well known names why the heck would you think I had a bloody Stroud calander??
I actually go to watch pre89 and pre82 as my first choice, watching Sean and Glen Williams ride??
Why you would fixate on Strouds name in my post when the tone of the Chops and my answer was generally about recognising top riders, if the crowd generally had knowledge they where racing and if they would be missed if they didn't??
My opinion agreeing with Chop stands! it would be not good if all the big names (or "the fast guys there" as Chop put it) decided not to go to Paeroa!!

i run a saloon car out of huntly and other tracks when i get a chance, , we are not a premier class so we do not get travel money, but entries are free,
big difference in set up tho, promotors get a lot more say in the running of the whole show,
but imagine turning up to an event and getting no practice, thats what it is like in speedway,

Thanks Brett - can you see that the organisers do not have forklifts or hoists behind bales inside the fencing, and can the bales be tied down ? I understand that this caused some serious injuries last year when a rider slid under the bales and into a forklift/hoist.

Sorry Reckless - not really a bad day. I am just getting sick of the KB whingathon.
I am getting sick of all those saying "well I am not going because so-and-so won't be racing".
Only to turn up - and low and behold there they are.
Still deciding on if they are being lemmings whom need their hand held or full of shit.
People go to Paeroa, to watch the racing.
Very few go for the top racers alone.

Probably just another KB thread assuming things as well.
But I do get chop's point, he possibly feels as if they don't go and he wins its not the same therefore maybe him and others won't go? I dunno, don't know him well enough to speculate but if 1 rider doesn't go their choice, but if 5 (or more) all stay away thats not going to be good? Your probably correct and it won't happen!!

Yeah, that would be right. The whole thing is a bloody shambles & the organisation is at an all time low.
Competitors have been ringing up for late entries & been getting abused for their trouble.
This year, for the first time, i will be attending the air show at Mount Maunganui instead, & suggest all other motorcyclists do the same.
For your information, their will only be two competitive sidecars there & a lot of old clunkers & no classic sidecars.
Theres always one aye.

Then theres the dangerous nature of the track and despite generating a good amount of cash little seems to make it back to the sport.
So what did you mean by that ? Safety is certainly within the context of your reply.
I'm sure that Mobil would not wish to be associated as lead sponsor for an event that was found to be dangerous, and organisers could have done more to keep racers safe ?
Imagine if Police/coroner findings slammed the event due to a death or bad accident....would Mobil be pleased as the main sponsor ? Especially after last year ?
Surely Mobil (and you as motorsport manager) have some say in the running of the event and safety when it could result in negative publicity ? At the end of the day it's Mobil's money supporting the event. Thats a lot of leverage surely ?

okay Point taken, I will raise it at my meeting with them on Monday.....just for you, I was referring to things like prize money and attractions for the riders like that things in our control and brief.
If I was concerned about Motorsport and danger being associated with the Mobil 1 brand we would have to withdraw support from F1, nascar as well as every form of motorsport on the planet:msn-wink:.

Im pretty sure I can walk around any motorsport event in NZ and tell you who are the fast guys without even watching them drive or ride just by the look of there bike or car, how they wear their gear and have their bike set up etc
Yeah but your not the average punter are ya ?

I can see a bike swap coming up, both of you would be fun to watch in the different classes, haha.
I'm working so won't be there, racing (chasing?) or watching. I'm not saying it won't be good racing but without the big names I wouldn't drive the 8 hours to watch the average club racer. On the other hand if I knew Craig was gonna battle it out with Stroudy, Tony Rees, Dan Stauffer, Robbie Bugden and co I'd move heaven and earth to get there. But as it stands there is absolutely no reason for them to turn up and I can't say I blame them.
Hey Brett, do you know any of the promotional details? If it's anything like the Tri-Series Rossi could be racing Lorenzo and Stoner and no-one would know about it.

There is one request I'd make and that's shade over the dummy grid ... like one of those big green shade cloth units they have in kids playgrounds at schools .... preferably with a few big fans running as well !!!!
I remember racing the Gisborne streetrace ... just bliss sitting in the cool shade of that leanto next to the big transport shed that was the dummy grid.
At Paeroa, on the other hand, it's like being tortured in a heat oven. Sometimes waiting 15mins and more in 30+ heat, full leathers, bikes overheating ...:sunny:

Haybales? WTF? Pussies! I rode speedway solo's and we had concrete on the outside...:violin:
But seriously, hate when someone gets injured. It stops the racing.
I B there as spectator. Love the atmospehere, the noise, the bikes. And the bikes!
And respect to everyone that races there!

They were all mailed out on the weekend so you guys should have yours in the next day or so.
