On post this pic of Max and Rastus here in Associationa -a picture game (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php/69344-Associations-a-picture-game?p=1129947488#post1129947488), I got some positive feed back that suggested to me that a few riders have forgotten who these Famous NZ Bikers were.
Here's a few links to help us remember them:
Max and Rastus Tribute Site (http://www.petsonthenet.co.nz/mrastusguest.htm)
Rastus the cat and his owner Max Corkill (http://www.xs4all.nl/%7Erottnest/rastus.htm)
Max Corkhill and Rastus the Cat (http://bbs.keyhole.com/ubb/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=1207304&site_id=1#import)
A Man And His Mate (http://www.classicglory.com/rastus.htm)
May they never be forgotten.
Wish I had meet them. Would love a story or two from those that have.

I met them at a classic bike meeting in New Plymouth and my wife still has a Rastus Tee shirt somewhere! IIRC, Max told us that Rastus was a Canadian moggy which he picked up whilst working over there. Rastus accompanied him on a trip into the USA and he thought his number was up when they were surrounded by a biker gang way out in the backblocks. Turns out that the gang thought that the whole idea of a travelling cat was so cool, they ended up feeding and entertaining the both of them before going on their merry way!

Yesterday I had brunch with a long time biking friend who has for some years now been a jaffa. Rastus and friend cropped up in conversation. My jaffa friend knew them well, much better than me. Rastus had a BMW triple as well as a Sunbeam.

Rastus had a BMW triple as well as a Sunbeam.I see, so the cat owned the bikes and was pillioning Max, LOL I'm sure Rastus would have thought as much and that Max would be smiling at that thought line, LOL

Would be great for those who really know him to repeat a few stories!

Yep they would goto kindies and teach kids how to treat pets,I was at a kindy with my kids one day,and Max showed kids that grabbing the cat by tail wasn't fun, well Rastus didn't think so,my kids knew not to misstreat cats, but now and then they'd get a swipe if cat was annoyed. After they met rastus their attitude changed re what they thought was harmless to the cat,Max's way of not dumbing down to kids, but also not making it hard to understand made the event great.

I only met them once - at a Classic festival at puke. as a cat breeder I was very interested in Rastus - Max warned me he didn't like breeders handling him to discover boning and body type - just basically running hands over him. Max was right, I've still got the scar among others....
I still think there was a lot of Burmese in his makeup.

That cat, I'm sure he thought he was a dog I remember being on a poker run in new plymouth and it started from the magog clubrooms we were laying in the sun on the grass near max and rastus had wandered of max whistled and yelled "here rastus" and the cat comes bounding through the grass and plonks himself at max's feet just like a dog, weird to see.

I remember having a ride with Max and Rastus.. Can't recall the date it was that long ago.. excuses age, boozing & other such reasons for poor memory
Amazing bloke and a very cool cat
Rode from Manawatu Gorge through Wapa.. stopped at the Summit Cafe and parted ways at the Ferry Terminal in Welli.
He told me that he brought over 12 bikes in a container from Canada and had a rare collection from the Sunbeam (Used as his Santa Sleigh) to the modified Inline 4 Beemer he was riding on the day.
Got a kick of hanging with Rastus as he walked up to every single person at the Summit 'introduced himself' and then moved on... upon recommencing the ride I found it interesting that Rastus was 'buttoned down' in the Tank bag while going over the Takas (makes sense) but on the open road... that Puss was up on the tank bag, paws on the handlebars and loving it!
Great people... I' sure Rastus felt/acted more like a person than a dog.. big 'dinner plate' paws as well.
They will be missed and they made a massive impression for the SPCA out of the Naki
RIP Max & Rastus

Great to see that photo again.
Would be good to do a tribute ride or any rides really.
Whatever happened to the Westpac chopper charity rides as well? Maybe combine it.
More rides and less typing.

perhaps 'we' could organise a memorial ride for the SPCA...?
That looks like fun

I find it a bit sad that the person we do forget is Gaynor, ok so she wasnt a cat.
She was however on the bike
That aside Max and Rastus were (quite rightly) the stars of many shows

Yes she does appear to be the forgotten victim in this...
Max, Rastus and Gaynor it should be....
