Okay, so im still waiting for my bike, was originally told six weeks till it would arrive - six weeks is this Saturday (give or take a few day's). Anyway so I ring the shop today and im told "looks like it won't be till end of this month, but prob beginning of July". (not their fault I know, and im not having a go @ the shop!)
I was supposed to be going up Taupo way's on the 24th, riding my own bike and going up with a few mates, now I cant  Also seeing as I almost crashed my mates bike the other day im not to keen in riding any of my other mates bikes, needless to say their probably not too keen either!
So here I am bikeless for another weekend, and seeing as ive only just mananged to get my learners licence I NEED all the practice I can get . . .
Anyway end of rant, but I was hoping to see if anyone knew anywhere in Wellington that may let me "hire" a 250cc bike for a weekend to ride up the island on, or am I just dreaming?!

unless you are old and have a wad of cash you can't hire bikes. Why is it taking so long did you order a new one??? If so it They come in shipments but usually 2 months apart or so. People also had troubles when the new 636's came out

Hmmm, no not old, and definately NOT alot of cash!! Bummer!!

And yea, I ordered a new one, their apparently "on the boat" now or in the next few day's or so, so not blaming the shop, they've been pretty fantastic to be honest. Its just that im EXTREMELY impatient, and was kinda looking forward to going for my first long ride on my own bike, but hey that's life! Guess i'll just spend the next few weeks drinking cant be all bad!

Does the shop have any second hand ones in stock of the same (or similar) model? If so have a talk, point out how the delay is affecting you, suggest that they 'laon" you the second hand one until yours arrives.

Bugjuice - Are you being serious??!! (im sure your not . . .)

Ixion - Good thinking, didn't even think about that!! However, im pretty sure that the shop would want it back in good condition - Im pretty sure that I couldnt guarantee that!

Looks like im just gonna have to "build a bridge" . . . . and buy shit loads of piss to console myself over the next few weeks or so

You will have this happen even once you get abike you learn to work around it (sadly), its best to get the 'anger' out of the system, the motorcycle industry relys on Ex-Japan stuff, and most of them dont understand english only part number

I very much am.. see this > < this is my serious face. I'd do it now if you had a bike here. You just sort it out with the dealer, go halves on a cheap ticket back to dorkland, and I'll see ya tomorrow!! I'd love to ride to welly, just don't want to do it there and back on my prescious.. that'd be double the k's on what I'm already trying to keep down. But for a one-way trip to Welly, it's nothing. The bike would still be being broke in by the time I got there. And, for the privalidge of doing it, I'll pay for the gas to get it there!! And make sure it's full when I drop it off..

if I could be more serious, I would be. I'd love to do that run. seriously really really.. serious.
And I wasn't as serious when I said I'd see ya this weekend, cos it doesn't happen that quick. But, if you were to buy a bike and wanted it down there, I'd be the first to stick my hand up, and seriously ride down the bike for you. I can even give you a couple of numbers to call to shop around for a bike up here, or just recommend you a place that you wouldn't go wrong.
I'd be happy to even take a couple of days off work, so that you could get it Friday, for the weekend. Couldn't think of anything better to do. I love to ride, I love NZ, I love to fly, and I could fit that all in a day (now there's a challange)..

very very serious. really really ;)
But you're the one buying the bike, so I can only hope. You're the one to make the calls, so don't let me bother you there :niceone:

this is a 250 you're talking about, right?

Buggy To be perfectly honest, a trip from Auckland to Wellington on a GN250 would not only be painfull, it would be the *worst* thing you could do in regard to running the new motor in.

ah, no problem.. It'd be a fun trip.
And to be honest, I mistook this thread with whoever it was who was waiting for the 636 to turn up.. But then I realised it was a 250. Thought what the heck, it's a bike, and it's NZ, so I'd still be as keen as a bean.. but hey I think you could be right there WT.

Anyone want to give me a bike that needs to go either way? prefer 400+, but not picky

Jonty, tried trademe?

Why not ? I've done Auckland to Wanganui on a 125 (with knobblies, too) . Wellington ain't much further. And twas good fun. Doesn't need to be fast to be fun.

You chugs along and you gets there. Don't take much longer than on a sportsbike (and if the sportsbiker ends up making a detour via the cop shop, the 250 will get there 28 days before the sports bike! :devil2: )

And here I was thinking that fast = fun?!! Yea, your rite its not the speed, for me its the experience - which is the most important thing to me atm.

Aye. When touring, if you just belt along flat out you miss the best stuff.

Stopping by a river and watching the ducks.

Taking in the reflections in a lake

Relaxing down a gravel side road that leads deep into a silent forest.

Stopping in the country towns and checking out the shops, having a natter to the locals. (They'll talk to you if you're on a little bike)

Going down a succession of twisty bits, then turning round and going back up , just for the fun of coming down again.

And , the back roads are the most fun, they usually involve some gravel, and on gravel your GN250 will eat the sports bikes. Leave 'em in your dust (literally) .

It's the fun that matters not the speed.

thing is, best for other people to crash my bike rather than me. cause crashing might hurt my pretty face, an cant be having that happen. my mullet m,ight get cut off when they go to operate on my brain to. cant have that either.

Hey Ixion, I have to ask...is this rider-speak?

Stopping by a river and watching the ducks. = landing in a river and scaring the ducks

Taking in the reflections in a lake = Watching your beloved go glub glub glub IN the lake?

Relaxing down a gravel side road that leads deep into a silent forest. = Skidding completely uncontrollably and uncomfortably down a gravel path into god-knows-where-but-no-one-is-going-to-find-your-body-for-weeks.

Stopping in the country towns and checking out the shops, having a natter to the locals. (They'll talk to you if you're on a little bike) = Begging the locals in a small hick town to tow your bike back to civilisation or asking them to search their workshops for a size6thingamejiggythatfitsonheresomehow.

Going down a succession of twisty bits, then turning round and going back up , just for the fun of coming down again.) = going down a succession of twisty bits, then turning around and going back up because you a) took a wrong turn and b) left a whole load of 'loose bits' from your bike on the road.

Sorry guys - just been to lunch and had some funny juice. (well, funny to ME at least!).

Why do you think they call it adventure riding. it's an adventure isn't it ?

= Watching your beloved go glub glub glub IN the lake?

Fit schnorkel, keep going

= Skidding completely uncontrollably and uncomfortably down a gravel path into god-knows-where-but-no-one-is-going-to-find-your-body-for-weeks.

You forgot, sideways. 'taint proper gravel road riding if you aren't sideways.

Mr Skid, some education needed here.

= Begging the locals in a small hick town to tow your bike back to civilisation or asking them to search their workshops for a size6thingamejiggythatfitsonheresomehow.

Workshops in small hick towns will produce 14 different size6thingamejiggys, dating back to 1924, and if none of them fit, make you a new one one the spot, from a bit of #8 wire.

= going down a succession of twisty bits, then turning around and going back up because you a) took a wrong turn and b) left a whole load of 'loose bits' from your bike on the road.

Nah, bits only fall off Harleys and old Triumphs.
